BackOfTheNet
33 minutes ago, jamboinglasgow said: Yeah, not saying its the wisest move from him, but still think the manager of Costa Rica has handled things just as poorly. He comments to the press before the game defending why he hasn't picked Vargas, while trying to praise him can also be a seen as odd in retrospect, where the reasoning was that he doesn't play centre forward like he wants and needs to improve to play on the wing, yet he picks every other attacking player (so those players dont have weaknesses to their game?) As I say it would be humiliating getting to the huge tournament and the manager says your not quite good enough to play any roles you can play and everyone else gets some minutes, and get dropped from the squad all together for a game leading up to it. As I say its not the best thing to do that statement but it does come across as a player who is at their lowest, emotional and feeling messed around. Yeah, I don’t blame him at all. He said what needs to be said and what the fans want said. I just hope he doesn’t get ostracised and miss out on the World Cup. But him not having to traipse across the world for friendlies or qualifiers isn’t the worst thing.

I'm not sure I've seen a match when both teams were just unapologetically going at it, full expectation that the other would too, yet being 100% committed to the bit. I swear the teams are tacitly acknowledging the skill and persistence in just living into the shitehouse.

Kick, kick, kick red kick kick kick, Brazil were nearly as bad. There was a free kick there near the end where both players were just utterly at it when Brazil got a free kick and it ended with the Uruguay player lightly patting the Brazil player on the head, who promptly dropped to the floor and rolled around grabbing his head. Quality in its own right.

DesertDawg
Colombia 1-0 Uruguay. Magic stuff with Colombia playing with 10 men for the entire second half. Mexican world cup referee was streets ahead of the German cheat earlier today and stood for no nonsensical rolling about or other acting....he'd clearly seen it all before. Close but the better team pulled it off in the end. Argentina vs Colombia in Miami in the final on Sunday after the Euro final.

Its clear that the authorities have messed up and trying to use the "fans tried to get in without tickets" excuse to try and pass the buck. The twitter user is saying that there was only one gate open and even then they are letting one person at a time (till they opened the gates) which means fans were packed behind the gates in hot weather for 90 mins, some fans were passing out. Does sound like a similar issue to the Champions league final in Paris. Not great with the US being joint-holders of the world cup in 2 years. boag1874
With that win last night Argentina became only the 2nd Intl team to win 3 major trophies on the spin - the other obviously being the legendary Spain side from 08-12. Pretty incredible achievement especially when you add that in with only 2 defeats in 5 years. Undoubtedly in the top 2 Intl sides of the century.
