Hes a lightning rod for the clubs,to take the flak for whatever decisions fans are unhappy about. This thread is evidence that 15 years on, he's still doing his job perfectly. Fans still blaming him for the unpopular decisions the clubs make.

The power lies with the clubs, so clearly the clubs are happy with his decision making and deals.  If they weren't he'd be gone.   The Setanta shambles still haunts clubs, so they will take any crumbs they can get off the Sky table, it's a comfort blanket.

Doncaster has been in the job far too long and has too many failures behind him, but blame the clubs who also agreed his nice 2 year notice period and fat salary.

If carlsberg did rivals...

I know what they were labelled in the 80s.

The old firm such as it was died in 2012 when the then Rangers went into liquidation, and no longer existed.

The present incarnation have been a club/business since 2012.

I couldn't care what Glasgow based journalists claim, or the totally stitched up Five way agreement states. Rangers football club went out of business in 2012.

The entity known as the old firm died 2012.

To the right thinking amongst us. The old firm has not existed since 2012.

I'm not suggesting the old firm still exists, I'm pointing out the term "new firm" is already taken.

It'll be 40 years next season since a club outside the OF won the league. We need a grass roots campaign to change the status quo. There should be Doncaster Out banners at every game.

And absolutely nobody (apart from on here) uses it to describe Rangers and Celtic.

How much would Livi get in ppv for their home game V Ross County? The crowd was about 1500. Not something clubs would vote for. The new firm are Aberdeen and Dundee United!

Glad to see you've worked out the finances! How much do Livi get now! The only games they can really sell are the uglies, a bit like current ticket sales!

Sky don't even use all of their games they pay for so given them more seems strange.

The fact that we are at the stage where Edinburgh Derbies aren't shown Live is an absolute disgrace.

Instead of allowing the clubs 5 games a piece to PPV, these should be launched on a League streaming network toull build a backdoor competitor to Sky. The viability could be tested over the duration of the current deal, and a decision could be made to either force Sky to get serious about Scottish Football, or kick them out should the concept be proven through testing.

Good grief!  Surely you don't expect that aberration to think like that.  He'd probably go off on full sickpay  with a severe headache, nominating the chairmen of the Uglies to finish deal.

Not because it's a Mickey Mouse league?

I suppose this is welcome news, any extra revenue for the league isn't to be sniffed at even if it is likely a pittance.

I'm hopeful this ex-Netflix bloke who is keen on investing in Motherwell has some ideas and contacts he can put forward to the league about getting a deal with one of the streaming services. It's most likely the future of sports broadcasting and Netflix themselves are seemingly more interested now in broadcasting sport (they've recently signed a deal with WWE to broadcast all their shows from 2025) after previously being against it. Clearly we're not exactly a prestige brand but there's probably value to be had in one of these services picking up rights to SPFL games to pad out their offering.

Have they signed up any sports though?

Each team should retain all rights to home games and sell to highest bidders or ppv themselves. Why let the new firm control what isn't theirs! Most teams would only ever get new firm games shown anyway!

If each club retains all rights to home games and sells to the highest bidder, the Glasgow arsecheeks will just make even more money in excess of what everyone else makes, further widening the financial gap.

I'm not sure why you think Aberdeen and Dundee Utd control things, or why you think only their games would be shown.

The sweetheart deal he has of £400k pa and a 2 year notice period really is a ****ing joke.

Whoever signed off on that should be ran out of the country.

I can't find exact figures but I'm pretty sure the bottom club in the Premiership gets over £1m a season, the vast majority of which comes from the TV deal.  If the clubs were left to their own devices, the likes of Livi would probably struggle to get enough interest in most of their games to even cover the cost of showing them.

We've had Doncaster as a Tory.....

Doncaster as a New Labour champagne socialist....

Maybe he is a Green. Clubs need to think outside the box to increase revenue schemes. Bring all your glass bottles to games so clubs can cash them in!!

His interviews are awful... he doesn't seem to understand that by putting google/Apple on some mythical pedestal he is also saying the people we are actually dealing with (SKY, TNT, Premier, BBC etc.) Are second rate.

Say TNT are thinking of slowly getting back into Scottish football. They can easily use Doncaster's words against him. You've said your product isn't good enough for Apple so why is it good enough for us? You'll need to lower your asking price.

I thought that as well. Premier Sports and TNT already invested in Scottish football but Apple and Amazon seem to be the ones we are trying as the dream

Would be good if it went back to BT/TNT. The Friday night games were always a welcome watch, and I like the commentator Rory Hamilton on TNT when the Europa League games are on. He has been doing some work for Sky lately however.

Wouldn't be against an Amazon type deal either.

Just a shame who we have negotiating it.

Its in Skys interest to pretty much have 24/7 football. I'm kinda surprised we haven't been able to negotiate more televised games on Friday nights - Like you, I quite like the Friday night games, appreciate that for away supporters its a bit of a ballache, but if it worked on a bit of a rota where everyone does their turn of hosting a Friday night game, the league should be able to sell an additional 12 games and fill a spot Sky might struggle to otherwise put on. I love finishing work on a Friday and watching football when its on (if its on).

Allows for the promotion of non-OF teams too which should be a win/win.

Something worth exploring IMO.

There are some horror stories out there about betting companies but WH seem to be up there with the worse. No checks unless you win etc.

I should say I gamble so I'm hardly one to hold the moral highground.

Sky already pay for more games than they actually show live. They use up ever teams OF at Home allocation, not choosing the Edinburgh Derby so they can save some for post split, and then aren't interested sending a crew to St Johnstone v Motherwell on a Friday night.

Found a fan of Doncaster at last.

It's a mix of things. Yes it's your values. I take it you want big betting sponsorship deal for Hearts too then.

But it's mainly how you build your contacts, the work you put in to attracting partners, and then sponsorship.

But fair play if you're happy the children are closer to getting into the brilliant world of betting.

You have made a few wild assumptions there.

Firstly I most certainly am not a fan of Dungcatcher, quite the opposite.

In an ideal world I would want Hearts and the SPFL to continue to raise the profile of charities, but we don't live in an ideal world.

Betting companies, alcohol producers, airlines, fizzy drinks manufacturers, junk food chains, all have negative sides to their business but the blunt truth is those are the ones that have the means to sponsor sport or the arts.

The alternative is no sponsorship, which means less income and an inferior product.

That's the decision clubs and associations have to make

Not really, you have to start at the bottom and make it a fair competition so that company's are more than happy to have their brand used for the good of everyone involved.

Instead we have a league thats laughed at worldwide at this time of year, referee's who support the teams involved at the top, the top two sides in the country steeped in bigotry and thrive on hatred.

Worse of all, zero call for any change whatsoever.

That gives Doncaster a very small list of potential sponsors and TV companies willing to put their names up. And those on that list know full well he'll bite their hand off for any sort of deal. Can't actually blame the guy.

Scottish Football is Shite will no sign of change on the horizon.

I agree to a certain extent, but regardless of the product, there has to be sponsors willing and financially able to fund a league or a club shirt and the fact is, at this time, only the type of companies that I mentioned have the funds to do it

The point is, why would they though.

The companies you mentioned are clearly interested and the average football supporter will be their target audience, i have no problems with any company willing to get involved, but..

Why waste funds on something you can get for a steal because the person your dealing with will bite your hand off for anything. You cant negotiate when everyone knows shirt buttons will get the deal done.
