As the topic says.

We’ve just upgraded our Wi-Fi speeds and each room now gets 500mbps average so, I’ve decided to look into keeping up with the smiffs.

The questions I have I can find online (but I’ll ask them anyway) but, what I’m looking for here is your opinion, have you experience of using this tech, pros/cons etc……

So, if you were a guest and walking into your room to see an active Alexa unit would you think this was a great addition or, would you be a bit suspicious.

A couple of my NITK questions:

Can I lock out the settings with a code like a smart tv.

What benefits would this provide a tourist, transport timetables, what’s on locally, where to eat, weather etc.

Is it multi lingual.

As a flat earther/conspiracy theorist will you immediately switch it off.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

ps were a guesthouse

Dirty Deeds

Nothing against it but wouldn't be a deciding factor in making the booking.

I have taken my echo dot with me when staying for a fortnight in an apartment, I wouldn't bother for a short break.

Bluetooth speakers would be good though.

I wouldn't mind but I also probably wouldn't use it much.

You'd need to be careful settings wise for things like alarms. If the guests used it to set an alarm for 5am then it could wake up all the guests on their devices too. If you can't change this in the settings you could get around it by having a separate amazon account fkr each device.

There's probably nothing to be gained other than Radio and quick weather reports to be honest. The guests will have their own phones for anything else.

No danger, dont even have one in the house, let alone would I want one in a random hotel room.

You really want "Alexa for Hospitality" but not sure if it's available in the UK as yet.

Don't the majority of your guests come to ESCAPE from stuff like that for a few days ?   😎

I was going to get fire sticks for the tv’s but, there’s still an element of non tech/OAP’s who’d just be knocking on my door asking how to work the TV 😳

I'd unplug it straight away tbh. I have a smart phone to do everything an Alexa does.

No requirement really. People's phones can do it.

Would echo the previous, I'd much rather a Bluetooth speaker

I think most people would bring their own tech if they wanted to, so I wouldn't bother.

We have alexa in the house and we only really use it to set timers when we're cooking and to turn our lamps on and off. I wouldn't use it in a hotel room setting.

Ok…..

thanks for the feedback….

looks like it wont be happening now.  Ive though of the bluetooth speakers but, I am concerned (overly paranoid tbh 😳) about noise in the rooms, the current doors are the originals not up to much regarding soundproofing.  I’m due to get these replaced later in the year then I’ll look into this blue teeth thingy 😁

I wouldn't bother with it, the suspicion outweighs the actual use it will get.

I have it on my TV in the house and i've not used it once, not because i'm suspicious, but because i don't see the point in it.

If I set an alarm on one of mine it only sounds the alarm on the device I set the alarm on. I can't remember if I had to make any changes in the settings for this.

I'd probably only use it for dimming or turning lights on and off, as you say, you can do everything else with your phone.

I don't even have one in the house. Would be unplugged immediately in a hotel room!

Listening in to your guests shagging, eh?

Perhaps the wee camera in the alarm clock is too well known now.

Yeah that's standard but you can ask it to announce/alert on all devices, either by accident or deliberate!

You could also send voice recordings to other devices on the same account like a telecom.

FWIW I do find those suspicious of them quite funny. Always be para.

Having been at a family party last weekend where as soon as the drunk women noticed the background music was being played through an Alexa the rest of the night just became a competition to see who could scream the loudest at the damn thing to then have it not play the song they wanted I'd say having an Alexa in a hotel room would be an awful idea

There's also the Drop In facility which can allow you to eavesdrop on another room, or view the devices camera, if it has one. Lots of scope for dodgy business there (Not that I think the OP would ever consider that...but.).

You need a check up from the neck up if your gauging any sort of opinion on JKB as a snapshot of anything that happens in the real world.

If you run a YMCA its possible you might be in with a chance of finding a few experienced overnighters, but a Hotel

We did that to a mate who hadn’t turned that off. Got him in the wee small hours🤣

Considering my Alexa in the living room randomly started playing Capital Fm at 3.30am this morning I would say no. Even moreso as it would not switch off when commanded and I had to unplug it.

You'd find customers complaining because some joker staying the night before has set an alarm for them...

Always quite pleased to find a Nespresso machine in the room. Have even been known to take capsules with me to hotels! Haha

I always like finding one in a hotel room too and, even better, for tea or coffee if they have fresh milk in the mini-fridge. I hate the long life "milk" capsules you usually get in hotels/B&B's, spoils whatever it's added to.

We have cafetières in the rooms with fresh ground coffee (Italian), no room for mini fridges but, our breakfast room is open 24/7 and guests can help themselves to small jugs of milk, (full fat/semi/skimmed/oat/almond or soya).  Those small milk pots are frowned upon by the green sustainability gurus.
