For most people, the Blessed Feast of St. Santa was (and still is) the big celebration, with the Holy Days of St. Cadbury in second place. It was only when I got a bit older that I discovered that for true Christian believers it's the other way round. No doubt the Christians piled their Easter story on top of some ancient pagan lore relating to springtime and lengthening days and all that stuff.
