It's also worth checking with the GP anyway in case it's something other than gout that's causing you problems.

Yes. 300mg each and every day for the past 31 years, for me. Touch wood, no flare-ups in all that time.
AlimOzturk
Been on alllopurin 3 years now and since I have got The dosage correct (300mg) I haven’t looked back with regards to gout. Eat what I want and drink what I want. Magical stuff and Imo the only sure fire way of stopping gout. Always have a bottle of Colchicine handy just in case Edited March 17 by AlimOzturk
Libertarian
Agree about the allopurinol. Cider vinegar rather than ordinary vinegar on the chips.

Armageddon
My mate used to get bouts of this, always said it was horrifically painful, like even the bedsheet touching his foot had him screaming in pain. Crystals not being broken down or something? Good luck!

Crystals not being broken down or something? Good luck! It basically uric acid not being broken down the kidneys properly and thus it forms into crystals in the joints making them inflame. It is a condition called hyperuricemia. As for the description of the pain that is spot on. I have dislocated my shoulder several times over my life and would prefer that pain any day of the week to a full gout attack. Horrific. Kenbo
Def allopurinol……. It’s a god send! Took a while to work with me though. I only take 100mg per day. Have had the odd twinge but not full on flare ups.
