Turkishcap
Probably unlikely but if it was could you imagine the tension? Not only the cup at stake but European group stages. Would be almost unbearable to lose.

A_A wehatethehibs
Odd how Hearts and Aberdeen have always avoided each other at Hampden. 1996 win for us was iirc the only time since 86.

Benny Klack
Bit like 2012 final - in that a victory would be absolutely magnificent but defeat unthinkable. Given their form this season I’d be confident we’d pump them tbh - but really don’t think they have a hope in hell of beating Celtic. Their record at Hampden is dire. Think you are correct - 96 was a weird occasion - from the lows of the equaliser to the high of Robbo’s winner - took us a minute to realise the goal was given. Less said about 86 the better 😕

Yeah, I really wish it had set up with an OF semi because I think Rangers could have won that and I think we have a better shot of beating Rangers at this point than Celtic. Beating an OF team three times in a season is very hard for us to do.

Bender
Since Aberdeen are thoroughly incapable of beating us south of Dalmeny, I wouldn't be that worried. Edited March 13 by Bender

Especially against, not a vintage, but ok Aberdeen team. The belief to come back after letting in that late equaliser was brilliant.

kingantti1874
Would never hear the end of that from sheep shagging mates. I’ve been giving them it tight this season. + we owe Celtic one after 19/20 Hearts 3-1 Celtic in the final

Less said about 86 the better 😕 The 1996 win was a massive win psychologically for us IMO. It was a game that in the years before we'd have likely lost (think of the two semi defeats to Airdrie) and bouncing back from the equaliser showed great resilience. Although we got thumped in the final, we came very close in the league cup final later that year and of course we went on to win the SC in 1998. But that semi in 96 was a real turning point IMO. JamboGraham
I understand the tension (does any cup final come without that?) but come 3pm on Cup Final day I would much rather be kicking off against relegation play off contenders Aberdeen than facing the need to win in Glasgow against one the uglies for a 3rd time this season. Focus on winning the cup, do that and Europe takes care of itself.
upgotheheads
I was thinking the same lines as the op. Trouble is Celtic are vulnerable and Aberdeen might have a new manager and get the NMB. Edited March 13 by upgotheheads

vegas-voss
Dream final really would would much rather play Aberdeen despite the risk of losing it all.As a good performance against Aberdeen and we would be strong favourites to win the cup imo , against Celtic or especially Rangers we could play very well and still conceivable loose as has happened frequently the last few years.
