Hey guys

Size 11.

Just currently recovering from a dose of whatever was going about.

Whatever it was gave me a massive flair up of inflammation / gout in my feet. This resulting in having constant pain in both my feet whenever I am out and about including working or standing for a long time.

Just wondering if anyone else has similar issues and what they can recommend re footwear.

I occasionally get bouts of arthritic pain in one of my feet, and gout has been ruled out as a cause.  I'm always more comfortable in whatever trainers I have to hand, and the brand doesn't seem to make a blind bit of difference.  But I recently went to my GP who prescribed me Diclofenac gel, which has eased my soreness a fair bit.  Just a thought.

Had gout for 10 years. On allopurinol daily until I die to control uric acid levels.

Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

It's knowing what triggeres it. Would love to say its fun finding out but it's the complete opposite 😭😭😭

Sketchers look like the best option I've seen so far

I’ve had gout for 32 years.  Allopurinol (300mg) every day.

I definitely would wish it on my worst three enemies.  👍

Mrs S  used to have regular soreness in her feet.  Its improved ever since a specialist recommended a better type of shoe to improve her gait.   Basically, anything that didn't have a right-angled flat heal, but had a slight upward-pointing toe - to accentuate the correct "roll" your foot should do when walking - heel first, then rolling until your toes touch down just as your heel is rising

A shoe like this -

th?id=OIP.oVp4ScYQ9i0whpTjqtyZEQHaEU&pid=Api&P=0&h=180

SKetchers are expensive, but anything with that profile performs the same function.  SHe got a pair of leather shoes from Wider Fit Shoes online and finds them a big improvement.

Hope that helps.

Having arthritis I prefer to wear trainers . They really are the most comfortable for my feet . I always wear special insoles too .  . Maybe think of both ?

I started buying extra wide shoes and it’s changed my life. I didn’t realise didn’t have to pinch the sides of my feet.

I have swollen feet/ankles often due to medication. As my feet are on the wide side anyway brands like adidas are a no-no.

I've been wearing Skechers for  few few years as they have a wide-ish fit and are very light/soft/comfortable. A bonus being they make shoes that don't look like trainers.

Mrs bought me padders slippers last year good for the house. For walking and working I used to use Nike and magnum boots👍🏻

Count me in the Skechers gang. Been wearing them for a number of years now due to neuroma’s on the nerves on the soles of my feet. They come in standard, wide or extra wide sizes. I just bought a new pair of their “Slip-in” style today actually.
I also have a pair I wear only indoors as we have hardwood and tile throughout the house. A godsend on hard floors.

If it's soles of heels may be plantar and need heel pads to sort out

if not wide Sketchers

Aye go and speak to an orthotic specialist.

I had foot, back and hip pain and it all stemmed from very flat feet.

Got fitted for insoles that go into shoes/trainers and they've really made a huge difference 👍

Special insoles like memory foam ones or just a raised one for your arches?

It's neither tbh it's only came on since I've been unwell recently triggered on a flair up of inflammation.

The pain is located in my feet if that makes sence.

Right in the middle of both of them.

Only thing that stops the constant pain is a cocktail of colchicine and Co codamol.

Got doctors again on Monday so hopefully they can send me somwhere to fix it.

Woke up this morning and I literally couldn't stand or walk until the drugs kicked in and took away the pain.

Doctor said I was walking like an 80 year old man. I'm 41 wtf.

And now, the end is near.......

I got a pair of them a couple of months back. Buying them made me think I'm getting into old man's territory, with not having to bend down to put them on and not having to tie them...but they're brilliant and very comfortable. They do enough styles as well so can get one that looks pretty smart.

I know how you feel. I used to mock the idea of wearing them. But what a difference.

Skechers. I have horrible size 10 feet, and only the aforementioned fit me comfortably.

without trying to alarm you it may be  start of arthritis . That’s how mine started with sore foot . I had a lot of pain  with it. And eventually got diagnosed with psoaritic arthritis . However It may just a mild inflammation but best to discuss with doc .

Well in my case it is a bit of both regarding old man territory and comfortable feet due to the neuroma’s (neuromi??🤷‍♂️).  I decided many years ago I rate comfort WAY ahead of a fashion statement.
As you say. Styles have vastly improved over the years.

You can self refer to podiatry in Edinburgh, you don’t need to go to your GP.

https://services.nhslothian.scot/podiatry/#:~:text=To access our service please,or letter with an appointment.

I agree with the sketchers and crocs suggestion but I’ve also got a pair from Fitville that are good. I think again it’s the wide fit.

Never tried Sketchers so might have a look . I think the width for shoes is the important thing as well as the cushion on the soles too ..flat shoes are a no no really . I always have sore feet the next day after wearing my tan Brogues for special events . But needs must when you want to look smart for a special event 😎

I got fitted for insoles that have a built up arch but they're pretty rigid.

You take the insoles out your shoes/trainers and put the custom ones in. No difference in size they're just shaped the way my feet should be.

Took a week or two to get used to with sore feet/back/calves etc because I was walking 'properly'

Gout is absolutely horrific. Get ob allopurinol asap as high uric acid levels can also cause kidney stones and things.

On 200mg daily and 4 colchicine daily for next 5 months.

Trial and error in what triggers it.

An unhealthy obsession with alochol doesn't help.

Rich sauces from bone marrow

Heavy tomato bases

Too much coffees

Too much red meat.

Kebabs/ greasey foods

All in moderation

Whilst I would always recommend a healthy lifestyle for many other reasons, I ain’t convinced it is the main trigger of gout. I was at my most athletic and healthy living when I first got my first bout of the gout. I genuinely thought I had broken my foot during a workout without know and didn’t bother getting it diagnosed. Second time was about 3 months later..same area.

Anyways Hyper uric acid leaves was diagnosed and on 300mg of allo probably for the rest of my life. Have had niggles and the odd flare up since but nothing like the first time.

Good luck mate.
