What are you on about, Hearts play in around three hours, great day ahead, football then home to eat the NY leftovers along with a few beers, life is good. Spellczech
Fair question. Certainly it would be better to have a day of when there is a chance of nice weather. Most businesses don't really treat 2nd as a PH though and it it is just one of your allowance. Got sympathy for those forced to take the 2nd though... If you work for a private sector company that has customers across the UK you will not get regional holidays. The 2nd is historically a recovery day in Scotland for pissheads to sober up after 2 days hard drinking. If you don't fall into that category its a miserable day with shite weather that drags before going back to work. I've not worked for anyone since the 90s that gave the 2nd as a holiday or day in lieu.

Dennis Reynolds
My big bad private company gives me the 2nd off and I enjoyed it watching Hearts beat Livi. Head office in London but regional teams get local holidays. Definitely felt like a public holiday to me. First role I've been in where I get public holidays rather than having them added to my holiday entitlement but id usually take the first few days of the new year off anyway. Glad to hear you enjoyed your day off. I went away for a nice, relaxing, break with the wife and the dog over new year. 4 nights in the Lake District. It would have only been 3 without the holiday yesterday but instead we were able to drive back up the road yesterday morning and get unpacked and settled on the couch in time to endure the match. I was wrong about them getting yesterday though, the other extra date they get is Paddy's Day. Folk in Jersey and Guernsey get Liberation day, in Alderney they relax on Homecoming day and the lucky Manx get to take advantage of both Senior Race Day and Tynwald day.
