Personally, I think it tastes quite nice, if a little sweet.

Drank worse.

6/10. :thumb:

I hope this thread isn't too pretentious.

Maybe merge with the wine thread 😂

Never actually tasted it.

Don't mind a bottle of Buckie now and again. Best served out of the freezer just before it turns into slush.

Oh, its sooo much more than just wine.

Buckie definitely deserves a thread of its own, if for no other reason, than to keep the snobs at arms length.

Damn expensive too for a half bottle but, y'know, needs must.  :biggrin2:

Why does your freezer turn into slush?

Is it no' working right?

Have consumed a fair few bottles in my life. Quite like it tbh and the caffeine content always perked me up. It's expensive these days though and I am a cheapskate 😅.

Love the stuff however gives me gout.

So can’t drink it.

Wash down an indomethacin and an allopurinol with your pint of Buckie.

Problem solved.

When I moved in with my mates in Paisley back in 2002, the shop below us did two bottles for a fiver. Even Eldorado and Tudor Rose was dearer than it.

Last time I bought a bottle it was £11.50.

Don't mind it but never really drank it to any degree. Had a handful of bottles in my lifetime.

Agree with OP. A solid 6/10.

Visited Buckfast Abbey in Devon a couple years back during Covid. It’s no longer made there as they sold the license to produce and bottle it a few years back.

Im sure they still make around £10 million a year just in royalties? Whatever the figure is it’s a lot and it shows.

The Abbey is immaculate. Has a museum and conference facilities. Lawns like the royal botanical and is kept generally to a very very high standard.

Well worth a visit if you are ever down that way.

If you require any further advice on getting melted, I'll take a PM.

Never tried it.

Glaswegian guy told me years ago that the big bottle is the perfect shape, to use as a weapon. I guess he meant by its long narrow neck or something.

When I mat my wife, she worked in a pub in Greenock, the pup opposite, The Green Oak, served Buckfast from about five or six optics 🤦

Love it. But it doesn't love me these days.

Agree with that, I've started topping it up with a bit of water when i'm at my mates, less harsh on your insides ( a full bottle of course, out the fridge).

Not sure I’ve ever tried it. If I have it was decades ago.

My Dutch mate who was over for the semi last month got a few slugs on the bus through and thought it was great.

I declined, mainly because of the floater/slaver sharing potential but he loved it.

He even managed to stay up until 8pm that day😂

Do jakeys still drink it for the buzz/speeding like sensation (assume from the caffeine effect)? From some of the comments above assume it’s no longer the tipple of choice due to pricing.

Can’t recall ever trying it personally.

Dragon soop is the go to for jakeys these days I think. Seems that way round here anyway. Cheap energy drink alcohol mix.

Still see the odd discarded Buckfast bottle now and again.

8% alcohol, mixed with caffeine. What can go wrong.
