I need the name of the nightclub on Lothian road which is now Club Tropicana please .

Before it was Subway...

Faze 1 was still Faze 1, century 2000 was still Century 2000...

If I'd been asked this 24hours ago I could have named it straight off the bat but I looked at a stupid Facebook link about "forgotten Edinburgh nightclubs" and it only names it as subway.

Please help JKB!!

Actually the more I think about the more I’m sure it was Pipers.

I went to a "Pipers" on Lothian Rd back in the 80s - part of or next to the Old Caley cinema.

Wow that brings back some memories.

" Blue oyster club" was a poor replacement for " Fire Island " but the gays still went there as it was the only gay nightclub.

" Madisons" at the Playhouse was ok too i recall. And if in the mood for " rough trade"  we would go to " The cooler " or " The venue",

Think due to financial reasons. It was still busy but only at the weekends.  Their Hogmanay night was legendary.  Lot of happy memories of that place.

The White Cockade

used to hit Rumours on Friday nights back in the 80’s

also remember going to Buster Brown’s , Bandwagon, Cinderella’s and Mad Hatter

Same time we would be going to Bianco’s , Rutland and Harry’s Bar I think

Also Beau Brummell and a few others

What was the pub bottom of Lothian Road the Petrol Station?

and the place at St Jame’s Centre Boston Bean Company?

Plenty more but the old memory is going?

I recall that Fire Island was previously known as The West End Club?

Above a shop called Watches of Switzerland.

Apparently, The West End Club had a popular gay club night, and it was that from which Fire Island was conceived.

Buster Brown's - £2.50 including a drink before 11:30 in 1985. What would the going entry fee be nowadays to include a drink? £15-20?

I used to go to Mercado/Massa on Thursdays and Fridays when they had the drink prices at £1. Pints of vodka & Red Bull for a fiver! 😳
