I buy most vinyl these days from:

1) Record label annual subscriptions - I currently have three:

Specialist Subject Records

Reckless Yes

Last Night From Glasgow

2) Bandcamp

3) At gigs

Piccadilly Records in Manchester is a favourite for buying stuff online.

I buy quite a lot from LNFG.

Never got round to the subscription. I will investigate.

Rega Planar 1 - £299
Pro-Ject T1 - £299

Have had both at various times in my life. The Rega probably a better piece of kit, but requires a bit more love (needs set up perfectly and a very good stylus to get the most out of it). The Project a bit more accommodating.

Had this on this morning (Apple music, not vinyl). Lovely stuff.

She's an incredible talent.

Always wonder how artists even start writing music like that.

It’s a beautiful piece of work. Absolutely top quality production values on it as well.

This is currently sounding great.

Anyone else into them? London crew who mix hiphop, jazz, soul, rnb, electronica and other stuff. The song writing is on point and I love the production. The girl's voice is so nice too.

Got a couple of their other LPs but this is probably my favourite.

Their lyrics and content reflect the poverty and substance abuse they grew up surrounded by in South London.

I keep meaning to buy more of their records but I hardly ever see them over here.

I’ve listened to a  it of their stuff in the past as a mate is very into them. I should try more as I enjoyed 5 and 7.

I bought a Sony Bluetooth turntable a couple years ago as I wanted to delve into the vinyl world (I actually owned a few records but had nothing to play them on). Opted for the bluetooth model as I'd already had a pretty decent sound set up and bluetooth integrated nicely. The turntable was only £200 at the time so I wasn't expecting fireworks but it's decent.

Since bought a pair of Edifier speakers for another £200 as I shifted my turntable to the garden room.

Went from a collection of around 5 LP's at the start, now sitting around the 80 mark. Generally buying new releases, or special edition / signed reissues. Living in Fife, there's not much in the way of crate digging to be done, need to get over to Edinburgh one day for a good dig around.

I did however pick up original Band on the Run and Beggars Banquet LP's from a market, the guy sold them to me for £16 all in because they crackled. A quick clean up when I got home and crackling is minimal.

I need to get my hands on some Sault. I've really enjoyed them when I've heard them on the wireless.

I bought Baltic Fleet "the dear one" on a whim. It was playing in the local record shop.

Big atmospheric instrumental stuff.

Sounds amazing on vinyl.

There's something about this song that brings back happy memories for me, but i can't remember what those memories are haha.

I know it's been sampled from the original by Thomas Newman and it was part of the American Beauty film soundtrack.

On the hunt for a new record player if anyone has recommendations for something cheap but cheerful, maybe around £300ish price range.

Rega Planar 1 - £299 from James Morrow in Tollcross:

Pro-Ject T1 - £299 from Richer Sounds in Chambers Street:

Both those shops have demo rooms so you can have a listen before you buy (essential - don't buy without listening first). The staff are great in both shops and will be able to advise you on suitable alternatives too.

It's Record Store Day tomorrow and another chance for major record labels to sell you some overpriced 'exclusive' vinyl. I remember when there used to be some genuinely interesting releases but that's going back a bit. I think my favourite ever RSD purchase was Stephen Malkmus and Friends doing the whole of  Can's 'Ege Bamyasi' live. That was 10 years ago though!

Wow, one of my favourite albums played by one of my favourite artists! Can't believe I've never heard this before.

The RSD releases were not too great this year. I got the live Pixies one, the Soul Jazz 200% dynamite compilation but couldn't find the repress of Ed Rush and Optical - Wormhole that I really wanted.

I generally don’t bother with it, the cynic in me says that a lot of the “special” stuff is outtakes that weren’t good enough to make the cut for albums. Though I’m sure there is genuine stuff out there.
Popped a few quid in a new copy of Illmatic as there was an annoying scratch on my original copy a few days ago and picked up a nice press of a Howling Wolf classic blues album.

I always seem to find a lot more good stuff on the black Friday RSD rather than the main one.

The live Pixies release came out on Friday on CD with a previous RSD release of Coachella.  Picked those up.

Got the following:

David Bowie - 7" Box set

Pearl Jam - Give Way CD

Garbage - 12" EP

U2 - 12" EP

DIIV - Live album

Frank Black - Live album

Suggs & Paul Weller - 7"

Alison Goldfrapp - Remix EP

Hugh Cornwell - Moments of Madness Dub 12"

Been playing this back to back for about 3 hours. Absolutely loving it.

https://www.discogs.com/release/25733602-DJ-Muro-Diggers-Dozen

The guy is a Japanese hiphop producer and turntablist. Makes DJ Krush sounding trippy hiphop but he plays a lot of big band jazz and funk. Sounds like those 70s blazploitation pimp sort of films. Superfly, Shaft, Foxy Brown sort of vibe.

This is a selection of his favourite Japanese upbeat funk and jazz.

I'm really loving it.

This too.

https://www.discogs.com/release/25484281-Pharoah-Sanders-Karma

Nice fat pressing. Super clear and super loud. Pharoah knew how to make his sax sing with emotion and drama. Big epic breakdowns and the melodies that bury themselves into your subconscious but you only remember them when you're trying to sleep or concentrate on something else. 🙄

Anyone checked out any of these Spiritual Jazz compilations on Jazzman records? They're superb selections on high quality pressings.

https://www.discogs.com/label/528518-Spiritual-Jazz

No.14 getting heavy rotation at the moment. It's a compilation of tunes from Private records. I'm no jazz expert but apparently it's a famous label.

Also been playing a fat re-press of the Love Movement by A Tribe Called Quest and Stakes is High by de la Soul. Always hear people talking about how great 3 feet high and rising is but Stakes is High is way better IMO. It stands up much more to repeat listening in this day and age.

Earthless - Rhythms From a Cosmic Sky. Loving this right now Psych / Stoner 3 piece with no vocalist. Amazing live and the LPs are pretty much just studio versions of their live sets. Long heavy jams with killer bass and virtuoso musicians.

Absolutely loving this right now too.

https://www.discogs.com/release/28364077-Fabio-Generation-Liquid-Volume-1

Compilation of liquid drum n'bass rollers from Fabio. Even if you're not a big electronic music guy or don't get drum n'bass as a genre, this might be an enjoyable listen. It's more jazzy and summery than the nosebleed ravey sort of stuff. Been playing it for the last few days and my 3 kids have been dancing around the house non stop. Great selection right there if you can handle the style.

This thread popping up just made me do a Discogs search for one of my favourite albums, Fear Of Fours by Lamb so I could have a vinyl copy. £80! Bugger that. It looks like genius does have a price after all.

Looks like a rare record.

Music on Vinyl re-pressed it a few years ago so it'll no doubt get another run. Usually pretty decent pressings on that label too.

Just need to get lucky and find one in a shop or be patient until they get round to doing another pressing.
