Qatar won hosting the World Cup because of bribery and corruption. An estimated 6,500 people died in building the stadiums. Qatar practises sharia law. Flogging is a punishment for some crimes. Homosexuality is illegal. People have not suddenly started pointing this out this week. People have been pointing this out since Qatar was awarded the World Cup back in 2010. Folk who have not been paying any attention think that the issues have only just come to public attention, because it's only just come to THEIR attention. There were concerns and protests over the Beijing Olympics, Sochi Winter Olympics and Moscow World Cup too, but people like to ignore that. People are not suddenly up in arms over Qatar and Qatar only. Large sporting events should not be awarded to unsuitable nations. The suitability can be argued over.
