Why do we cry?

I don’t mean as in the emotional aspect wether it be grief, pain, stress etc etc I mean the physical act of our tear ducts opening and the tears flow?

Our bodies haven’t changed that much in 200,000 years however when did and why did man develop the ability or indeed need to cry?

Seriously though, the brain receives signals from the part of the brain that controls your emotions.

Sad emotions ignite the tear fountain.

Could it have started as a method of non-verbal communication, with the purpose of displaying distress, evolved to allow the young of the speices to show they need fed etc?

That kind of misses my point and apologies if you did.

Crying “the act of” involves the release of tears.

Your very valid point is possible without tears. Kids greet, men get upset, distress is shown without the need of tears.

Tears appear to be symbolic perhaps? Again it’s the bodies ability to produce tears I find fascinating.

Why don’t you take yourself to the depths of Hell?

You have absolutely no idea what you are dealing with here, child.

Started for me when the old man started taking me to Tynecastle as a child. Never cried before then.

I cheated and googled it.

Tears that wash debris contain 98% water.

Emotional tears contain endorphins and something else.

Anyway another wonderful small miracle that is our body.

I know humans get a bad press but what a biological thing of beauty our bodies and minds are .
