Classic Film - can't remember seeing her in anything else though.

She was Truly Scrumptious right enough

I was surprised to learn that she did very few films, I think she did a lot of stage work, but very few films.

The song doll on a music box was seemingly done in one take.......one fecking take, I think the singing voice was added later but the wind-up doll movements she did was all done in one take.

Mine too, although we always skipped her "Lovely, Lonely Man" solo song. Even for the daughter of a sweetie factory owner, that song was a bit too saccharine.

I read that in her obituary. She had lied about her dancing ability at the recruitment and thought that she'd be found out in that scene.

Mind you, with Dick van Dyke playing the lead, she could probably have got away with almost anything. He was brilliant.

Malinga the Swinga

Much as Van Dyke annoyed me in Mary Poppins, he was good in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and she was excellent as Truly Scrumptious.

You know it's a classic when it's not been remade as no remake is necessary.

You know it's perfect, when any remake would probably flop anyway.

She was a fine all rounder. More at home in the theatre and was like her contempory Petula Clark a Rank child star in the late 40s. I saw her in an old film the other day " Pink string and sealing wax" which was pretty good. Googie Withers was in it.  I was thinking it bizarre that she is still alive yet that film was made in 1948 .  Petula Clark  is still around and so is her other comtempory  Julie Andrews.

A book written by Ian Fleming too.

Probably Benny Hill's best film performance.

Truly Scrumptious was indeed a fine looking lassie.

I have to admit it's not one of my favourite films.

And Roald Dahl co-wrote the screenplay for the film
