Club Structure

After the Logan signing and now rumours of another 30+ signing it surely brings into question the role of Savage & Neilson and Ann Budges understanding of how the structure should work, and that’s before Arnotts job at the academy is brought into foucus.

Our signing policy has been frankly disgraceful, has beens, never beens and never will be’s. Yet here we are again more pointless signings to replace the last lot of pointless signings.

Surely it’s Savages job to recruit raw talent who can be coached by the (and the clue is in the title) Head Coach with a view to selling on at a profit to enable the next set of raw recruits to be more talented than the last lot. Sustain a core of players for a 2/3 year period only having to replace those who are sold. So far we’ve seen none of this, no player has improved under any manager never mind just Neilson. I would also suggest Savage with the academy guys should be bringing in talented youngsters develop in line with the first team coaches and help supplement the first team.

For me something has to give, we either dispose of Savage and the academy and recruit managers who sign their own players or we recruit a proven coaching team to work with Savage. At the moment we seem to be getting a mix, McEnff fits the Savage model but looks lost under the coaching team whereas Logan fits the Neilson/manager model.

Where Ann Budge falls way short is understanding how this works and putting demands on all parties. There has to be clear targets met year on year. Such as 2 academy players must be good enough to play in 20 games in their first season, at least 1 player sold for profit every year, 1 academy player sold every 2 years.... clear this just finger in the air stuff but I see none of this from Ann Budge, it started of as Top 4 was a must yet she’s allowed standards to drop so far winning the championship is now a ‘success’ that’s scandalous for Hearts.

Its time to make all employees accountable, and if they can’t hack it they shouldn’t be at the club.
