Cade
27,000 cubic meters of sand dredged out to shift that thing. Ship displaces 220,000 tonnes. See how fast the 400 ships in the traffic jam can fire through the canal now.

Yes, I imagine that the seamen involved will shortly be gushing through the canal after having been held back for so long.

Holding back is difficult, but it makes the release all the more pleasant ... at least, so I'm told.

They must have all been simply pent-up with frustration while the wee tugs gradually edged that ship away from the bank.

Cade
Took 10 tugs and 6 days to get the seamen on the move.

graygo
After shouting abuse at the TV reporter on the news for calling the ship Ever Given instead of Evergreen I've just found out that it is called Ever Given and Evergreen is the name of the company that owns it. Tazio
By sheer coincidence I’ve just seen the ship mentioned in a video I was watching. Apparently the authorities still have the ship and crew detained and are demanding $900m compensation for lost trade, the recovery effort, and damage to the canal. One paper here reported about a week ago that the crew could be on that ship for years before there is clearance for them to leave
