Murray Walker

Just read that Murray Walker has died. Another of the golden age of commentators gone, endlessly enthusiastic in his love of the sport.

He drove past his old man's

tank going the opposite direction towards the end of it.

Worked for an advertising firm and apparently came up with the mars a day and put a tiger in your tank slogans.

97 is a decent go at life. His a prominent voice in my house when I was younger, my dad always had the F1 on. RIP to the legend!

Indeed. Watching F1 without him was never quite the same.

Great voice. Not a fan of motor racing but he did have a voice that made it sound exciting.

Rip

a few things he said

The lead car is unique, except for the one behind it which is identical.

I don't make mistakes. I make prophecies which immediately turn out to be wrong.

There's nothing wrong with the car except that it's on fire.

And now, excuse me while I interrupt myself.

And that just shows you how important the car is in Formula One Racing.

Either the car is stationary, or it's on the move.

That's history. I say history because it happened in the past.

Like John 'Oh I say' Motson, Bill McLaren and that whispering snooker boy he's one of those folk so synonymous with their sport that theirs is the voice you do if your commentating in your head.

Always seemed an affable, self effacing auld stick. Apart from golf, F1 is as boring as it gets (although snooker and tennis are still up there) but his natural enthusiasm made it interesting at least until the first lap was over.

Thought he'd reached the chequered flag years back mind you.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, and I think I am...

His was the voice we learned to mimic as we played our Scalextric. Synonymous with his sport and he was in love with it.
