Just saw this post on FB about Wattie sponsoring Margate FC shirts. :rifle:

Big Dougie Trendle from Bad Manners used to have a holiday home in Margate so I see that connection, don't know what Watties is however.

our old record company  Oi Records sponsored Margate the band the Business  was on their home strip and we were on their away strip

when Margate played Fulham first round of the English cup we got invited down for the game and it was a mental weekend .

before kick off Fulham owner  Mohamed AL-Fayed had hired a elephant to walk around the track which was pretty bizarre .

Fulham had just signed this Canadian player for a million pound.

A week I think before this game so he was worth more than the whole Margate team any way Margate scored first  and every body was going totally mental ,then late on Fulham scored so I was thinking if it goes to a replay BBC1 is going to show the replay and we would be getting advertised all over the world because we were the sponsor  on their away shirts ,but they scored really late on and one 1-2 so that spoiled that but Margate really gave them a fright .

so after the game it was free drinks for my mates and myself and the record company guys and a great weekend and I got a shirt with the exploited on it :rifle:

Keven Keegan was the manager and the assistant was Ray Wilkins and they had just signed there new 1.1million player who came of the bench to score the winner

Paul Peschisolido arrived at Fulham in a blaze of publicity, shattering records left, right and centre. He was an instant hit with the fans and stayed that way, even when newer and even more expensive strikers started arriving on a seemingly monthly basis.

That was back in 1998. The Mohamed Al Fayed revolution was gathering momentum, the dream team of Kevin Keegan and Ray Wilkins had arrived, and the Premier League was firmly in everyone’s sights. As if to demonstrate their undoubted ambition, Fulham, only recently promoted to the third tier of English football, brought in Peschisolido, a proven goalscorer, for the unheard of sum of £1.1m. That not only smashed Fulham’s transfer record, it demolished the division’s previous best as well.:rifle:

Very interesting read CJ and Wattie. The Business were a really great band. Bet most of their fans would rather call a West Ham shirt the business though😉 Still very punk rock to sponsor a team like Margate FC😎

Dougie was mad alright, him and several members of the band decided to come with me on an interview, ended with factory security escorting us from premises. If I remember right he was a gooner.

Don’t think Hearts have ever paid more than £850,000 so definitely unheard of for us!

Haha that makes sense😀🍻 Perhaps there's a local Edinburgh team that could need some sponsoring?😉

Well the quality of football itself is still greater North of Hadrian's wall no matter how much they spend down there.

Margate took the lead in 6 mins with a penalty then Fulham scored with a deflected shot from 25 yards  lucky as shit ,

then with 13 mins to go they scored  with their  new one Million Pound player  who came on as a sub as they had only signed him that week ,But Margate gave them a fright and it was just a pity we never got a replay in front of the bbc cameras sponsored by the EXPLOITED oh well back up the road to Edinburgh to watch the Hearts :rifle:

think it was a record crowd for them to over 5000 people brilliant day out :rifle:

when they first turned up AL Fayed was thinking he was a god the way he was talking to people and making demands of the Margate directors who told him to shove it so that didnt go down very well ,Fulham just thought they had to turn up but in the end they couldn't get away back on their coaches quick enough after the game  :rifle:

It's Mark that runs Captain Oi! records isn't it Wattie? The Business were brilliant, such a shame Micky Fitz died a couple of years ago, he was an absolutely top bloke (he was also a big WHU fan eh).

Your Canadian is Paul Peschilido. Who is married to Karren Brady.

The commentary is wrong. Peschilido did not score the first. He is wearing number 10 and not number 4 who scored the first from the deflection.

Cool Stories Wattie👏 Awesome movie clip and pictures Locky and JF👍  I enjoyed the fact that the big team left in a hurry after the game.

I had to look up the Down To Margate CD as I thought it was a cool concept, the world's first 'non league' football album😁

Recognized most of the bands (mosly Hearts/Millwall/West Ham affiliations if I'm not wrong). Does anyone know what team Judge Dread/ Bad Manners followed?

Couldn't find any info on "The Backseat Warriors" but I suspect they were a studio only/ session band  Perhaps someone could shed a light on this mystery act?

Bad manners and Buster bloodvessel. They did the Hms Collingwood Christmas party in 1982. Simon Bates was the DJ.

Buster thought it was a good idea to start throwing his beer over the sailors at the front of the stage.

Soon changed his mind when he got it returned 10 fold.
