But if the messiah is successful in the scotland job do you think he'll do what Smith and McLeish done and want back in league football? i'm a big fan of burley just as much as any hearts fan but for a national manager do you think we need a retiring/older person like alex ferguson or graeme sousness who will be happy to end his managerial stint as national coach and see the job out? I think it's just a fact of life really...either have a successful national manager who we lose when someone comes calling (though i am certain he will stay until the end of the quallies/world cup - smith was a complete fecking ballbag for not doing so) or have someone like Souness or Burns who do a complete balls-up of the job and get sacked. Having said that I wouldn't expect any loyalty from Souness - if, by some bizarre chance, he had done well, he would be offski as soon as you could say jean-alain boumsong.
