When I make the kids home made chicken nuggets I do, flour first, then egg, then breadcrumbs, as it helps bind the breadcrumbs, but for the recipe I mentioned above, I have tried both ways and the egg makes no difference, dunno if it is because you use rice flour rather than just normal though.

Perfect. Thank you.

Deep fried salt&chilli beancurd (comes with tons of sliced chillies and spring onions, it's fiery, salty and deeply savoury. Crispy outside and creamy inside)
Plain chow mein (noodles, bean sprouts, onions, soy sauce)
Mix these two together.

3rd choice I'd have to say mini spring rolls filled with duck meat and served with hoisin dipping sauce

What, in your eyes, should Kung Po chicken be?

I used to go to a place where I tried it and it was lovely. The chicken was in this sticky sort of dark red/orange coloured sauce much like sweet and sour, but had a little kick to it. I don't like sweet and sour, but I loved this stuff.

Had it in a couple of other places though and it's never been like that. Been in a darker, brown sauce, not much kick to it.

Kung Po should be as you described first time - quite similar to sweet and sour but with a spicy kick.

Kung Po King Prawn is great.

Likewise. The spicy kick takes it to a different level.

Thanks for that, will try that next week👍

That picture is my shredded chicken, not Kung Po. Apologies if I’ve picked you up wrong.

Salty, sweet and spicy sauce with red peppers, onions and peanuts. Definitely should have a kick to it. I’m not keen on sweet and sour either.

The only place I have seen this on the menu was a place in Blackhall called New Happy Palace, which moved to Granton Road. After a  quick google search it appears it is no longer in business.

Jong Po Chicken

Dice chicken breasts into cubes, roll in rice flour and fry

Fry large chopped onion pieces, tin of bamboo shoots, water chestnuts in a wok

Add in chicken pieces

Add Hoi Sin sauce (have tried loads, Blue Dragon works best with this recipe)

Anyone who likes Peking Duck will love this

It’s still opened mate it’s my Chinese takeaway of choice as others don’t come close in my opinion.

Anyone ever ordered an omelette from the Chinese? Seems like every Chinese takeaway does them but I've yet to find someone who has ordered one.

Agree mate, we used to go even after it shifted from Blackhall to Granton, very good Chinese, I recommend the Jong Po if it is still on the menu!!

EDIT - See you are in EH4, was born and brought up in D Mains myself.

There curry sauce is the best around. I jump between the beef curry, Kung po chicken and beef black bean.

yes Muirhouse born and bred now  live at ferry road past the doocot going towards D mains

No but a mate of mine always used to go for the chicken Maryland😆

Edit - I bet the omelette tastes exactly the same as egg foo yung!

It doesn’t. It has a dark soy sauce which is just delightful.

Egg foo yung is amazing as well though.

Gonna have to get rid of one of them surely, or you’re gonna die from dehydration.

I’ve had some that do it just as normal pieces of chicken. In my opinion, it must be in batter, spicy and with cashew nuts. I’ve had every single meal there is to have on a Chinese takeaway menu, so speaking from experience :smuggy:

I've woken up in the middle of the night gasping on water after a chinese, many times!

Hate to think what it would be like after one of those salt n chilli munchie boxes.

My usual is Chicken fried rice, salt and pepper chips with curry sauce. Only sometimes i go extra and get chicken balls.

The place at Newington, China Munchybox allows you to get as much as 6 items.

My own attempt at Shredded Chicken in Chilli Honey sauce, have it all the time. I actually enjoy it better than a takeaway.

Here’s my first attempt at shredded chicken in a chilli honey sauce with egg fried rice, really enjoyed it and will make again, I added half a red pepper.

Hate when they add prawn crackers and a can of juice into the price though, i don't want a can of juice and prawn crackers should be free.
