Waiting in the wings..the Old Firm Vultures

Stories doing the rounds that the 'old firm' have made it clear should or when clubs go to the wall in England they are ready to step in

Not straight into the Premier League of course but they would boost TV monies in the lower leagues at a time when they are much needed.

With clubs disappearing there would not be the same issue about clubs voting like Turkeys at Christmas.

Discussions with Sky

Please note we are talking about lower leagues NOT straight into the top league

Of course this has been done to death but circumstances are just not what they were and the clubs will need all income if they are to survive and if they go bust reorganisation will take place of the lower leagues in England

Now who knows the impact Covid has still to wreak on some clubs in the UK but will all clubs survive till Christmas ?

Unless there is a British league, this is a non starter.

I hope they get their wish, but perhaps it will sink in that if they can't make it happen when numerous English clubs go to the wall they'll never make it happen.

If actively and openly wanting away from your league isn't bringing the game into disrepute I don't know what is. Let's stop Hearts training for a couple of weeks for no reason though. That's a much bigger issue.

If them two get out of jail, we go with them. Into a British league system. Only fair. Then our colts can play their's here in Scotland in the Football association league, making it possible, not  breaching National league rules.. Surely this is the only way ahead.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sky has discussed something like this as it would boost the PPV by 100's of 1000 every week × 2 🤔

UEFA wouldn't let this happen, they're very against cross border teams and leagues because they don't want a breakaway European Superleague from the big 5 leagues.

If the OF go I'd want us to rip everything with leagues up here and really go all out to stop the same dominance happening again between us, Aberdeen and Hibs. Go A-League style and get a small professional set up with a salary cap, maybe a draft, let teams make marquee signings, encourage domestic players in squad etc etc.

I'm sure there will be a lot of well run non-league clubs in England who would be prepared (and able) to step in to any spaces should league clubs go to the wall

do we get to go as well?

If this year has proven anything it’s that Scottish football is run by a bent cabal and populated largely with parasitic clubs who’s only ambition is to survive off the blood from other clubs, there are no prospects for Scottish football other Than being pushed further to the margins regardless of whether rangers and Celtic stay in it..

oh to play in a well run, ambitious country, where we would stop losing players like Calum Paterson to clubs no bigger than our own, where we could aim to achieve something and play on top / competitive leagues with good players

would absolutely love it. **** Scottish football, every team in it, the SPFL and the SFA.. let it all burn

I can't see it happening. Do you think supporters of English clubs, when fans get back into grounds, will take kindly to Celtic fans particularly, booing the 2 minutes silence when it comes to playing on the Remembrance weekend? They get away with it up here by playing away from home against a small team that won't complain. No chance they would get away with that down south.

Well put mate. Good summary of the state of Scottish football. 👍

The thing is the "old firm" could have a highly competitive product in Scotland if they would just shut their greedy pusses and listen to the majority of folk who want to reconstruct the leagues, reform the competitions, reduce the amount of full-time pro clubs, get rid of corruption, appoint new leadership with fresh ideas and actually sell the Scottish game internationally. The Scottish leagues are capable of so much more but the "old-firm" still think they are in the 17th Century! Its pathetic!

Just so long as they are not allowed to play either their reserve or colts sides here. If they do eventually go (I doubt it will ever happen), the game here needs a complete severance  from their bile.

That rule applies to all clubs but two

Yeah, it would go to one their 'special votes'.

Personally, I would be delighted to see them go, the sooner the better... them Scottish football could really grow. You know, with a level playing field for all. What a novelty!

My guess if this is true its also a sign they are both on shakey ground themselves financially.

Covid is hurting them more than they are letting on.

While I cant see it coming to anything would be interesting to see how popular both would be for getting there by standing on the graves of potentialy traditional old English clubs .

The English media certainly wouldn't cut them no slack .

I certainly wouldn't want to follow them down.

Scottish football would flourish without them at at a more balanced and competitive level if they were to fully go ,but they wouldn't they would leave colts behind and most of scottish foitball owners would agree to their demands ,likely let them represent us in Europe also .

I can't see the FA, SFA or UEFA allowing them to stay in Glasgow while playing in a different country.

What's to stop clubs of other nations doing the same thing if it were allowed?

We could soon see Shanghai Rovers FC or Mumbai Wanderers playing in League 1&2. 🤣

Wishful thinking.

It would finally put an end to the stuff about 'moving to the next level' that we sometimes hear from Celtic fans though. The 'next level' in their heads is competing in the later stages of European competitions. If the arse-cheeks were accepted into the lower leagues in England they could be stuck there for years. Even if they made it into the Premier League eventually, they would rarely get a sniff of Europe.

There are huge clubs in England get stuck in the lower leagues for years, I can't see why either Celtic or Rangers would be immune from that.

Bazzas right boot

Won't happen until UEFA allow it.

Also, in the current climate starting of in the lower division would be an alll mighty gamble, especially for Rangers imo.

I'm happy for them to **** off a anywhere they like.

That means they go completely, as in relocate and sell their stadiums in Scotland and absolutely no colts teams left behind to perpetuate their filthy beliefs.

Remember when Sam Hamman tried to move Wimbledon to Dublin..

Won’t happen this year or next year or....

That failed in 1997 because the FA had a rule and kicked it into the long grass

The same year the Steadmans sold Kilbowie to a property developer

in Feb 1998 Clydebank who were going under their new owner and Colm McCarthy who tried the same  at Wimbledon then tried it as well as there is no rule in Scotland.  It was the fans who got UEFA to and Fifa to block the move,  but if there was no mass protest, then UEFA would not have cared a jot.

If they had moved there would still have been a Clydebank, and now not an Airdrieonians

The SFA cant block it, and if the OF did try to take advantage of the situation, I would hope AB has already begun negotiations, but the OF would not get any blockage from the SFA/UEFA,  just the EFA who just dont want them!

The original poster seems to have forgotten that if Covid 19 wreaks financial havoc on a large swathe of English clubs, it will only be the meaningless operating companies that will die the death of liquidation, while the immortal metaphysical clubs will sail on into the future entirely debt-free. I'm pretty sure that's how Doncaster & Co told us it works.

The most important thing in all this is being forgotten. THE ENGLISH DONT WANT THEM.

This.

The marketing people at the FA, EFL and most importantly, EPL do not want several thousand bigoted Neanderthals up and down the M6 several times a week tainting their extremely valuable product with sectarian songs and violence. Think about the English press outrage at them. No sweeping it under the carpet as high spirits and passion per the wegia.

Even if they got as far as an application, the due diligence on the risk of the fans previous behaviour would rule it out. Can you imagine an FA auditor reading the crap on the OF messaged boards.

The best thing that could happen would be for the Scottish, English, Welsh and Northern Irish leagues all to be amalgamated in one UK league. Then every club in the UK would have the same opportunities for promotion to the top league, TV deals etc.

It would mean the end for a lot of smaller clubs, but that is the price of progress. They can continue in their local Junior/Amateur leagues, playing within their means.

It would also mean having one international team representing the UK, not 4 separate teams. Not a bad thing where Scotland are concerned given how crap we are, and any top class players we have such as Andy Robertson would make the team anyway.

There would obviously be cries of "but it's England under another name", but eventually I think we would be supporting a British team, just like in the Olympics.

Never going to happen unfortunately.

Financially they might be attractive to England but their baggage far outweighs that. They will NEVER change their ways and, whilst they don't no - one would want them

Agree the SFA wouldn't try to block it. UEFA on the other hand may see it as the thin end of a wedge against their lucrative cross border competitions.

Here in Wales there are 6 clubs in the English League pyramid (Merthyr and Colwyn Bay are the lesser known ones). There is zero chance any others will be allowed to join.

The problem is, if clubs in serious numbers go under both sides of the border, they might panic and see it as a good fix.  And by default the might start in the championship as the bottom 2 leagues might need to rethink and resize or resurect

English football at the top remains resilient.

Another example of many of Old Firm being out of touch.

Exactly the biggest clubs are already in talks on how they can support the lower leagues. The old squirm will try anything to wrangle their way into England. They should be penalised for bringing this game into disrepute. Yet the SPFL/GFA are happy to turn a blind eye.

Do they not have to give three years notice to the SPFL?

Yes but I’ve no doubt they would be assisted in every possible way and Doncaster et al would put a positive slant on it. ‘Showcasing Scottish football to a different and wider audience’ etc etc blah blah.

Wouldnt trouble me if they both left as long as it is BOTH. Might even improve the spectacle up here and generate a bit of competition amongst half a dozen clubs

Not happening though is it. Would have happened already if it were.
