EEN have reported these problems. By the looks of it, it's just a case of 'tough titty' if you've players on international duty. Sure I read a while back that clubs could opt out of the League Cup this year. No idea if anyone has. With that in mind, I as mentioned, would've scrapped the groups this season and just went with a straight knockout.

XXX
I can’t see how the competition can be played unless it reverts to a knockout format and we don’t know how many clubs are going to be around it’s a difficult task.
martoon
Given up hope that I'll ever see us win it. Our record in it is awful in my time. Two final defeats and around 10 losses in the semi's. It should never have went back to the dreary group games. The straight knockout, early in the season, format of the 1980's and '90's was the best. After the European place went the early season immediacy was the only saving grace and they stopped that at the turn of the millennium. It needs revamping again. Some imaginative, but good, thinking. The Skol format transformed it overnight in the mid '80's and instead of maintaining that we've reverted back to the bad old days of the groups. They're shite.
