One thing that went through my mind when watching an Amazon ‘worker’ telling us how much he loves his job and how we must all pull together and support our key workers. It’s about time people seen right through this. Amazon don’t give a shit about their slave labour conditions unless it effects PR and sales. Amazon doesn’t key about key workers when they are avoiding every single penny of tax they can. I’d like to see a banner on all adverts showing up how much corporation tax these ***** all pay. It may be the case that on a small proportion of warehouse staff are on Anazon's payroll, with the majority being contract or via agencies. I’ve been working for Amazon for the last 10 weeks or so. ‘We’ have created Amazon, sadly. ‘We’re’ so keen to have everything now, all the gadgets, all the plastic shite for our kids. Without ‘us’ there would be no Amazon. In terms of working there it’s £9.50ph for a 10 hour shift, working 4 on, 3 off. They were paying £11.50ph due to CV but that’s stopped now The work I do, stowing, is boring as sin and hard work. When you’ve done your 4 days you know all about it They’ve handled CV19 really well - temperature checks on entry, plentiful masks and hand gel. Lots of appropriate signage, floor markings and ‘wardens’ making sure folks respect 2 metres. They’re on a different level when compared to Diet Chef/Parsley Box I worked with before So on one hand, decent employers. On the other hand, you’re a number and an expendable one at that. I asked for some help this week and was asked to go see my manager. I don’t know who they are. I’ve never been introduced to them and they’ve not come to see me I’ve been off sick for 4 weeks after putting my hand through a window and nicking my radial artery - ended up with 22 stitches and it could have been much worse. Not one phone call from my employer. No return to work interview. So, in answer to the OP. Absolutely agree. Sick to the back teeth of all of this shit from tax evading businesses like Amazon. If Amazon really want to support key workers, then as a company who employ over 800k worldwide and with a digital footprint as large and recognisable, the stage is all theirs Fed up with two faced people like Lewis Hamilton banging a drum too, but conveniently forgetting the background to the people lining his pockets Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Cade Posted July 11, 2020 Share Posted July 11, 2020 If these big multinationals paid a decent wage, had decent working conditions, offered job security, paid a fair amount of tax and didn't source their raw materials from 3rd world sweatshops, then perhaps I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. But as it is, all they do is make headlines every few months by making a donation to some charity or other that only has to exist because they don't pay any tax.
