Anyone remember this name? A striker JJ picked up on trial in summer of 2010 who was very highly rated. Word was, we had picked up the next big star...

He played as a trialist again Blackburn at Tynie and while he didn't stand out, he didn't look entirely rubbish. We didn't sign him there and then, but for reasons I can't recall, he went to Morton on a short term deal with an almost verbal agreement that we'd sign him in January. Suffice to say, that never happened.

He went to Singapore and had spells at 2 clubs, and done quite well before a move to Greece in 2013. He's now 30, and according to Wikipedia, hasn't had a club since. What might've been eh?

Sure I seen him play as a trialist v Dalkeith Thistle at Kings Park.

Think we had another trialist striker play the following week v Penicuik.

Anybody remember his name?He was an African that had been playing in China.Anyway he looked pants.

An ex player looking for a club eh??

Sounds a familiar cry on here.

Lets just make this the standard 'Bring him home Robbie thread' shall we?

Was it another great scouting effort from Murray?

What about the next Hagi that we signed, can't even remember his name.

I remember him. Just had a look at his Wiki page. Looks like we were right to forget him. Allan Moore was the Morton manager, and let him go after a few months.

Playing in Singapore would have been his level and probably gave him a decent lifestyle.

Yeah, he and Branny Kostadinov were signed around the same time...both were highly hyped.

I wonder if for the past 10 years everytime his phone rings he answers with 'Bonjour, Monsieur Jefferies?'.

He's still got a couple of years in him imo, could easily hit the 20 goal mark if he stays injury free.

Was banging them in one preseason for us prompting many to want him chucked in the first team.

I seen him play for Morton v Partick in the winter that year 0-0. Watched him closer to see what the fuss was about, however he was rank.

Thought at least he would be able to Hold the Line.

I just remember from that Blackburn game looking at the opposition players and thinking they were man mountains compared to our guys - in particular that Christopher Samba jings he was a unit but got about the pitch no bother

I bet he trains down in Africa.

There was issues with his player registration. Something to do with his previous club going bust and someone wanting compensation.

He was able to sign for Morton on amateur terms while that wasn't an option for us in Premier League if I recall correctly.

IIRC, we were cautious about signing him immediately as it could have left us open to some sort of obligation to part with a hefty fee. I assume it may have been due to a former club but recall Jim stating there were some things to be looked into.

It's bad when a team you have played for doesn't even have a wiki page.

Was the chat in the papers at the time not about us beating Celtic to signing him?

This just gave me a flash back to that player called Bikey (I think!), Maybe I dreamt it...he came after being in the lower leagues, and got punted straight back down on loan. From Stirling Albion maybe??

Yeah. The only game I recall seeing him in was Robbie's testimonial.

I think he was highly regarded as a youngster. He was captain of Slovenia u21s when he was 18.

There was a racist/xenophobic story in one of the red tops, I think the Sun, about him and his family immediately after we beat Celtic to him. Something about gypsies and caravans. From memory they did have to apologise though.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumitru_Copil

"In November 2007 the magazine World Soccer named Copil among the top 50 young footballers in the world.[5][7] However, he was unable to break into Hearts' first-team and went AWOL in March 2008, returning to Arad after being substituted in a Youth Cup tie.[8]

He was persuaded to return, but told to stay away until pre-season training began in June 2008. The Lithuanian owners of the club suspected that he was only coming back in order to be paid over the summer break."

LOL.

Branimir Kostadinov was insane on football manager. Prolific is an understatement. However, his career is not quite the same.
