13 shot in Canadian shooting

Thirteen people including the shooter have reportedly been killed in a shooting incident in a small town in Nova Scotia. One Mountie dead and one injured  . News sort of slow coming out but a tragedy Nova Scotia is not very big so a small town is probably really small.

Such a quiet, normally peaceful province. I have friends in Truro close to where it happened.

Brother lives in southern NS, have been out there a few times, last place on earth I would expect this to happen

Horrible 😢

16 now; Canada's worst mass shooting, surpassing Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique shooting in 1989.

The Internet

Doesn't sound like he's randomly lost the plot. He dressed up as a cop and did his car up to look like a police car. Planned and premeditated. Shame he died and won't face the consequences.

The consequences in the Canadian Justice system are comfortable quarters with many benefits, and rules that prohibit any severe treatment. If you really behave well an the all the counselling and treatments for your possible mental problems at some time in your life sentence you may get scouted outside privileges an in some cases long timers have ben given paroles.

Shame the arsehole is dead too.

It’s almost like he’s got away with it and not have to pay the consequences.

Just heard the Mountie on the news regarding progress in this case. He states that they have not yet been able to search the full area , there  could be more incidents still to be discovered. I get  the impression that he wa one of these police junkies. His car was made to look like an RCMP vehicle, and when found had an RCMP type uniform in the back. My speculation would be that he was travelling around dressed as a mountie, stopping people and subsequently shooting them. Sudden death was too good for him, but assures he won't do it again.

Attacker was white, so it'll be a mental health issue.

Why wouldn't it be?

Why is that your first response rather than anything about the fact so many people are dead?

Because the online persona he/she has decided to adopt is a bit of an arse.

Pretty much so, there are so many samples of the accused being diagnosed as having mental health problems, and it has been suggested that this is so with this deceased killer of what is now twenty three people. On in the recent past that just seemed awful was a man who killed his little children. mMentally troubled, sentence to a mental facility. In fairly short order he was allowed escorted leaves, and not a lot later asked and got unescorted leaves. Th public were assured he was not a danger, so was his former wife the mother of the dad children. So far he has not as far as I know done anything bad,  but there was no warning of his previous actions either.

And identity politics are more important than actual lives to him/her.

Friends of mine know some of the people caught up in this. It’s awful.

We were on a Greek island cruise Kast June and got friendly with a French Canadian, who had recently retired from the Mounties, and his wife. We dined with them most nights and they were a lovely couple. He never posts on his facebook page but posted a few days ago that he knew the officer killed. Such a tragic waste of lives for no purpose.

Her husband was on TV yesterday he advised that a party was planned for quite soon with their families, there young son was going to be wearing a T shirt with the words I am going to be a big brother, as a way of announcing to the family that she was pregnant. I worked closely with Mounties in my job. We had a combined Port Police, Canada Customs, RCMP drug detection team. I was the nominated Superintendent to coordinate the joint operations. A major drug seizure was made, and the local newspaper published a picture of the team and I was in it with the seizure laid out on a table. The Mounties got that picture and got it developed and framed and presented it to me as a gift. They are all I have met pretty good guys.

  • 2 weeks later...

Canada bans all assault weapons.

Buy-back scheme to be put into operation.

Police are still looking for a motive but by all accounts the bloke was a wife beating bully with a history of drunken rages.

Been buying up ex-police cars at auction for a while, as well as his guns.

He'd obviously been planning something for ages.

He shot and killed pets and other animals at all of the houses he visited and then set fire to.

An absolute monster.
