In the same boat as every other team (better off than most) except Celtic or rangers. So, who are you comparing Hearts against to say we’re priced out of the market?

Give him 5 minutes and he'll start a thread to find out the answer.

Near enough every club in England.

It's just getting worse and worse.

Couldn't even keep a hold of bloody milinkovic and it took us about 6 months to get him fit.

No, we're only signing bad players from now on. There was an email went out to clubs and agents, I believe. "Got any bad players?" it said. "Send them to us. The worse the better." Sorry to confirm your worst fears.

It’s a difficult market for sure but we can still be competitive up here. My contention is we spend a larger percentage of the budget on 5 or 6 key players with cheaper players (journeymen) who know the game up here and academy players making up the rest of the squad.

Aye, there's no denying that we could do a hell of a lot better with a scout/manager that actually has an eye for a player.

Or even just get a team that wants to play for each other rather than the money.

Motherwell and livi seem to be doing pretty well on a fraction of our budget.

A big boy did it and ran away.

I’m sure that’s the title of a Christopher Brooknyre novel. It’s a very funny read. Check it out!

Will we ever see good players at Hearts again?

Unless we can create them ourselves from the academy, or we see a change in marketing (tv deals etc)  i think it's going to be one hell of a miserable time for us over the next however many years.

You're only about 20 years too late with this post mate.

There is a potential game changer just now. If teams go bust due to the current situation there could be a glut of players available which will lower salaries.

Article in the Independeny today showing that the top 10 clubs in the championship in England spend more in wages than their income.

Reading pay out £226 in wages for every £100 of income.

No wonder we can’t compete.

Utter madness and this crisis may bring an end to it.

This has all been waiting to go pop just didn’t expect it to potentially come as a result of a virus.

Is that just players’ wages or all staff? If it’s all staff, then up until maybe QPR, none of those clubs can blame anyone except themselves if they go pop.

It says wages.

A good read.

Could be carnage.

Just read it. Yep, was interesting. As Sharpe said, it’s like high stakes gambling. 👍

John Murray should have been emptied years ago, 20 years and I would say that the majority of people he has brought in or recommended have been a big failure and the way he's doing his scouting is lazy and not good enough for a club like ours.

If we sold players for decent amounts we would have wriggle room to try and exploit teams abroad with low finances similar to what the old firm and English clubs do to us and others.

Dread to think the dross we would sign with 30 million to spare! Still have nightmares about the Bosnian bullet!

the key is in the academy! Players like Hickey are the key then re-invest the money in having the greatest academy in Britain that everyone wants to come to because they know the facilities are unbelievable and know they will get a move to better things.
