Marvin
I always thought that the health of a society, Was reflected in how it treated it's most vulnerable, And our country still sits at the top table, Of the richest on the planet, Yet it is quietly unravelling the fabric, That holds our society together, And of the first victims of this impoverishment, Is our most vulnerable, the poor and disabled, Universal Credit sounds innocuous enough, With crab like cunning This new order of payments to those entitled Has a gap between old and new Of five weeks A cliff edge that throws those most vulnerable Into that hell called homelessness, Where most don't survive a second winter As for the rest, further indebted They live with the fear of sanction By a system both punitive and cruel For not chasing hard enough for the shittiest jobs, Or for just being late, Sliding back to a Dickensian past A children's story now includes Visiting the food bank Normalising the unacceptable And one in three children now live in poverty Is this the country we really love? We voted these people in. I for one would think twice before trusting them with my Yes, That choice is yours; As " There but for fortune Go you or I"

Just read a post of yours in the "Green Bottle" thread over on the Terrace. Apologies if I'm way off course or approaching this a bit clumsily. Just reaching out, bud. That poem I posted was attached to a shop window round the corner from my work. With all the reports in the news surrounding Brexit and UC I thought I'd post.
