queensferryjambo
Hi, Just looking for a wee bit of help from supporters in the 1970s who might have some info on the Hearts change kit of the mid 70s possibly 1976/77. This isn't the white and maroon kit with the thinner bar stripes and round neck like the ones worn in the Texaco Cup final programme. Possibly somebody might have a colour photo of it being worn. Kit is definitely Umbro but even from the black and white photos the dark stripes look much darker than maroon home kit. So my question is what colour were these kits thick stripes maroon? black? or dark blue?
davemclaren
Vague memory of it. Just maroon stripes I think. We had more to worry about than away strips that season. 😎

Thankfully I am one of the lucky Hearts fans who were too young to have suffered it.
Gilamas
Maroon and white. I remember them also from the collectible football cards of the day.

Andrew Gilbert Wauchope
From the faces I can recognise in the squad (Cruikie, Roy Kay, Dave Sneddon, JJ, Willie Gibson, Drew Busby, Kenny Aird), it's definitely a mid-1970s team photo. However, although I was watching Hearts home and away at that time, I have no recollection of that strip at all.
queensferryjambo
Found another black and white one vs Stirling Albion the cup apparently - worthy of posting anyway
vasco
Looking at the top photograph and remembering these first team players, how the f#ck did we get relegated? I was at every game that season, and this side was miles better than the '79 or '81 relegation teams.

A Shoreditch Heart
Ralph Callahan and Eamon Bannon in the same team photo - my two big heroes of the post Busby / Ford era , but I think we sold Callahan to Newcastle before that awful 76/77 season even started

When I have discussed it before people tended to get mixed up with the other earlier striped shirts with the thinner striped and round neck. I have found colour photos of that one but never the thicker striped one. Here is the thinner striped one from the earlier 70s.

The real misery started the next season 🙁
A Shoreditch Heart
we've always wore maroon and white in the 1970's ....apart from a cup tie against Dundee in 1975 maybe - 1-1 (Tommy Murray)

Interesting kick off time, most likely an international at Murray field. There used to be a flood of rugby fans would enter when the gates would be opened with about 20 minutes remaining. No floodlights at Murray field back then.

In fact I think the earlier striped shirt worn in the Texaco cup is pretty much the same as the West Brom kit of the same time as well (except they had a white round neck).
