Hopefully not as many changes as last summer but some key signings and getting some names off the books. I've tried to put players in some sort of order in terms of importance to the team based on contribution etc and some in hope that they'll turn out good e.g. Aidy White. I've put both Naismith and Djoum as having left the club currently as we don't know for sure that they will be here next season and I don't want to tempt fate with Naismith. What areas do people feel we need to strengthen in? Ages and contracts should be up to date and I can't see anywhere that Mason has extended his contract so unsure if he will be leaving this summer. Wide midfield is one glaring area of the team that needs experienced/better additions, along with attacking midfield - only Naismith, Clare and Edwards just now? I think Petkov is a midfielder. Petkov I heard was not going to be kept on but then dropped back into central defence and has been excellent. Bulgarian u21 now and looks promising. Not sure what the plan will be next season for him and Chris Hamilton. We've been caught out before by loaning out too many players and not having cover when injuries and suspensions have kicked in. Final year of their contracts with a lot to prove, but near impossible to produce performances capable of toppling Michael Smith. Smith can play at centre half, but even you'd need an injury crisis or some movement over the summer to even consider slotting him in there at anyone's expense. (If for a minute we assume everyone is staying in the listed squad). Too many in that list need to go or need to up their performances. Like the look of Irving, Smith and Hickey(who doesn’t after last weeks final performance?). Would like to see if these lads can push the more experienced players and worry them. Michael smith was quality all season unlucky he got beat by Naismith for player of the season. Some of those players around the 21/22 year old mark need to be in the squad and trying to force their way into the team. Make or break for the likes of Zanatta and Moore who should be pushing to break in the squad. I don't think it would be beneficial putting these guys out on another loan at 21/22 and the one year extensions probably show that hearts think the same. We have a very large chunk of our squad with a year left on their contract: Baur, Bozanic, Brandon, Currie, Dikamona, Doyle, Edwards, Godinho, Hamilton, Henderson, Irving, Keena, Maclean, Moore, Mulraney, Nwanze, Petkov, Ritchie, Sandison, Silva, C. Smith, Vanecek (though has a 1 year option on contract), Zanatta. So quite a few fringe players. As you say there are a few around 20-22 year olds that have a big season ahead of them if they want to stay here. Baur, Brandon, Currie, Godinho, Irving, Keena, Moore, Petkov, Silva and Zanatta all need to try and break through to get a longer contract. I do think Zanatta has developed a lot in the last 2 years and do well, think Brandon and Godinho will be much better this season after a proper pre-season and no long term injury though I can imagine only 1 will be still here after next summer, Irving and Keena have demonstrated what they can bring to the first team. Petkov has come on, but is he going to get a chance at centre back or central midfield, where he are quite full of players? Silva being a goalkeeper means 21/22 is not too old to break through. I do think Baur will be off and Currie has not developed as well as hoped (injuries have played a big part in that) so I do think he will be off by the end of the season. Id like to see if we could maybe get rid of another 4 [Doyle,McLean,Vanecek and 1 of Edwards,Bozanic or Lee. So that would be 12 out and id try bring in 6 first team quality players. Id like to see us go for GK - Bachmann [ was on loan at Killie last year and is in his final year at Watford, very good keeper ] Wingers - Cadden and Milinkovic CM - Lewis MacLeod from Brentford and Docherty from Rangers Striker - Kieran Agard from MK Dons 20 goals from 46 I think all these players are within our budget, maybe of the higher end but we need some serious quality. Naismith to sign. Being greedy, I think if we were to sign a winger/wide midfielder that would top off a great window with Naismith resigning. Plenty of competition all over the squad.
