United are dross compared to City - how many of their players would get a regular game for City?

Probably nobody if being honest, at a push maybe De Gea, but not on current form.

They thought they had a good squad that weren't far away. The performances and results. But it has turned to dust.

No No...OGS must stay on for the next couple of seasons at least

He's played the perfect game by getting a new manager bounce, agreeing a new contract and actually signing it after a couple of poor results leaving the club facing a large pay out if he is forced out the door.

Well done that man..keep it up

They will forever regret not going after Pochettino

Liverpool had their worst performance of the season at old Trafford.

Utd were there for the taking but Liverpool never turned up.

As you’d were all I’m watching Sky I was up at a cold Tranent. Our 18s played away to Hibs tonight, we won 2-1 and were worthy winners. Hibs much older and physical than our young team. We dominated from the start to finish, same as the last league game against them, we should have won by more tonight. Aiden Denholm and Dean Ritchie (penalty) were the scorers for us. Always good to see our 18s play football while Hibs go long ball at every opportunity. The 3 best players on the pitch were in maroon,  Denholm, Strang and Ritchie who was the standout. Was interesting to hear John Rankin and Donald Park go nuts on the touchline at times when standards were dropping. Great game and result on a freezing night.

It was Souness who sounded a bit of a tit tonight for me. At least Neville had his own opinions, Souness was trying to sook up to Keane. It was quite cringey.

Its a gutless United team full of players who’d never have got anywhere near old Trafford a few years ago though, lack so many of the qualities you associated with them. Them and Arsenal are soft touches now.

Im not quite sure why I enjoy watching United struggle so much either, I don’t really care a shite who wins what in England.

All three rent-a-gobs who don't think about anything in depth. Neville, who used to do that, but has sold out now, slags the players because he's too scared to criticise the manager or the owners; Keane and Souness are both walking caricatures.

Souness was a bully and a thug on the park and doesn't understand that bullying and thuggery don't work in modern football. And someone needs to ask Keane especially why he was such a terrible manager, why his current club are crap, and what difference he thinks he's making as Martin O'Neill's tea boy.

The Old Tolbooth

Whilst I was feeling dirty hoping for a Man Utd result last night, I knew it was never going to happen because they've turned into a shambolic mess of a club, and so it proved over the course of the 90 minutes where City outclassed them in every single department, it was actually embarrassing and hilarious at the same time, and the fact they've appointed Ole Gunnar Fraudster on a 3 year contract is even more hilarious! The Cardiff reject was only given the job because of peer pressure from dopey fans and celebs attached to the club alike, I'd be devastated if I were a sensible Man Utd fan appointing that little gimp, he's got absolutely nothing about him whatsoever, and I've said this from day one. Man United are trying too hard to hold onto their past, like Liverpool did for far too long, the longer they do it, the more they'll fade away into the doldrums, they need to recognise that Fergie was one of a kind, a proper special manager who they will never ever replicate no matter how hard they try, and until they get over that little love affair, they'll never move forward.

Burnley, Leicester, and Brighton will all give City tougher games than last night, but probably not tough enough to take anything from them and I can't see anything other than a City title win now.

Souness and Keane also had bags of quality with the ball at their feet and scored vital goals in big games. Both were truly top class players.

More so than that, perhaps because they had to work harder than most to make the most of their abilities, they had standards that they expected their team mates to follow. (Shirk out of a tackle, knowing Souness or Keane were on the pitch with you? No chance.)

And Souness admitted once to making dirty tackles on purpose when he felt his side were a bit lethargic. It riled the opposition which, in turn, raised the temperature of the game, and basically woke his team up. Scott Brown does that rather successfully now (without the talent, obv)

Bully, thug, tea boy? Not even close.

True, but also referred to Souness as a bully and a thug as a player.

To be honest, managerial ability seems to have no bearing on anyone's ability as a pundit. Furthermore, i am no footballing expert, but i rarely hear a pundit say anything that i cannot see for myself and usually head to the kettle at half time or just tune in to some porn. Sometimes both.

Souness was one of the best midfielders Scotland has produced. Played in, and was an integral part of, a great Liverpool team that won 5 Leagues and 3 European Cups when he was there.

So he was a cheat. Glad we're agreed on that. Only too predictable that a Stoke fan like you (Shawcross was at it again the other day; he's carved out quite the career for himself there) excuses it.

What did Souness do in his first game as Rangers manager? He 'set an example' by being sent off for a disgusting challenge. Below, the sort of challenge Souness would make. Open thuggery on a football pitch - for which British football fans celebrate him.

Souness went on to be a thug as a manager too. Hence him falling out with quite ridiculous numbers of players (as well as destroying both Liverpool and Newcastle. Top stuff, Graeme).

And as for Keane, however much the title of the video below is wrong...

"I'd waited long enough. I ****ing hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that you *****".

Then he walked out on his country at a World Cup after giving his very good manager a torrent of foul mouthed, racist abuse. Then he spent absurd amounts on mostly rubbish at Sunderland. Then he failed disastrously at Ipswich. And then, with Ireland, despite only being assistant manager, he somehow harmed their chances as well. By being the only thing he knows how to be. A bully.

He's absolutely toxic. This sort of stuff has happened wherever he's been. And we think he's some sort of footballing role model or something?! He's even bitter about Alex Ferguson FFS.

Uruguay - one player excepted - stopped behaving like that a long, long time ago.

There's a more serious point in all this though. With the sole exception of one Sergio Ramos, dirty players tend not to thrive in the modern game. Even enforcer types, like Makelele or Fernandinho, aren't/weren't dirty - but just brilliant.

Souness and Keane hark back to a time "when men were men" (when dirty *******s ruled the roost). But football, thank heavens, has moved on.

You misunderstand me, Shaun. I'm not talking about 'those' sorts of challenges (inexcusable, of course) but the type to raise the temperature of a game to shake your team out of their lethargy. It works.

And you can post all the tackles you like by Souness and Keane, the fact remains they were tremendous footballers also and it is no coincidence they raised countless trophies between them. They know

Incidentally, the Souness stuff happened around the same time Uruguay kicked Scotland off the park at the World Cup, but i suspect you will tend towards romanticising those thugs. Something to do with their poetic, Latino, fiery temperament  :77_77:

Absolutely not. They shamed their entire country. So much so that their next manager's brief was, specifically, to clean up the national team's act (he succeeded, and is still the manager now).

And the manager of those thugs? The public were so angry, he was under virtual house arrest at one point. :o Omar Borras was his name. He rose to prominence here as a PE teacher when the fascist dictatorship was in place. So for darkness across society, read appalling darkness on the pitch.

Nothing much wrong with United's attitude tonight. Just been completely outclassed.

I don't know what any manager could do there. Their owners are so awful, and it'd take years for anyone to turn them around: up against a combination of world leading managers and oil wealth.

Look at the way they play. There's no pattern, no identity. They started the Barca game with two awful centre backs who've somehow lasted over 8 years there; they're completely punchless up front too. It's such an indictment. And players don't get better at United; they regress. See De Gea for the latest evidence.

Didn't Ceramic work under those owners as well in his last few years?

Yes. Which only further highlights his greatness. I think he did his greatest ever work in continuing to win and contend for league titles after Ronaldo and Saha left - because it's been downhill all the way for that squad ever since.

It was - but no-one's perfect. Why was Keane kicked out of United? For throwing his teammates - in particular, the younger ones - under a bus.

Did he apologise? No. Has he remained quite pathetically bitter about it ever since? Yes.

Almost all of Ferguson's players think of him in the way this chap does below. But not Roy.

Liverpool playing tonight v Huddersfield

Liverpool need to use this game to address the goal difference issue as they're 8 behind City, although it's a bit of a stick or bust scenario imo, they tried that at Palace after going 3 up early doors and were pegged back to 3-3, although it didn't matter in the end anyway, but it's one of them, do you just secure the win and protect the players fitness for the Barca game, or go for broke and apply more pressure to City?

Liverpool are certainly capable of taking a lot of goals from them, especially when you see the stats of the City game against Huddersfield at the Etihad.
