Is this leading to another defence of Levein, Frank?

Its all you’re doing today across other threads.

I got about the same excitement from those signings as I do your posts Frank.

Apologies to the cup winning and scoring legend that is Darren Barr.

It was incredible Morgan. I remember sneaking downstairs to check ceefax to confirm the return of the prodigal son.

Tynecastle should be re named Robbo’s gaff.

Honestly thought Darren Barr was going to be a great CB for us but it never worked out. He came good towards the end of his time and when played as a DM. As for Sutton, like everyone else I thought we had signed a proven goal scorer but we all know how that turned out!

morgan got it.

after a drab time with Jordan and iain ferguson on his own up front, scraping narrow wins with Derek ferguson passing the ball backwards/sidewards but never forward, cruyff couldn't have been a bigger signing than robbo at that time.

The Old Tolbooth

None of that lot, Robbo coming back home from Newcastle was the most excited I ever got at a transfer, next I'd say pinching McCann from Dundee, and getting Cameron in the door too.

Yes.  The signing of my Hearts supporting life.

I wasn't excited by any of them particularly ?? odd choices.

The signing I remember being most excited about was Beslija. What a let down

Pinilla seemed to have a bit of pedigree, even more than I expected as it turned out in the long term though we did not benefit from it.

Robbo’s return...or the 2nd coming of Rudi

I thought ee had made a mistake re-signing Rudi instead of the Plymouth left back (Capaldi) at the time.

That's why i'm on here talking to you lot instead of managing Barcelona

Yes, there was such hype about the 'Bosnian bullet' which he spectacularly failed to deliver!

Beslija is probably mine as well. Largely because we seemed a little weak at Right Mid (in comparison to the rest of the team). He seemed like the missing piece of the puzzle at the time.

I was quite excited by Black.

Looked superb for ICT. Little terrier who could boss things and had a good passing range.

Perhaps never hit amazing heights but in the end he didn't disappoint. Cup winning legend.

Sutton. 'wow we've signed a top spl proven goalscorer' I thought. Simpler times.

Think he probably would have been had we not binned JJ so early. Got a Scottish cup out of it though so difficult to argue with that trade off :D

As said above Beslija surely must be in contention. Darren Barr always looked excellent, I thought we were signing a Pressley replacement but he was nowhere near that, did a turn at DM and have to love him for starting THAT rout but overall meh.

Two biggest disappointments I have though were two guys with outstanding pedigrees, international class midfielders who should have pissed the Scottish league. Ones legs had gone and the other clearly couldn't be bothered, so, for me, the biggest disappointments were Vincent Guerin and Tzolis

Robbo re-signed the night of the Velez Mostar away game in December 1988. Joe Jordan and Derek Ferguson were still a year or two away.

Anyway, to my eternal shame, the most excited I’ve ever been about a signing was when Michael Stewart signed. I thought, “feck me, we’ve signed a Man U player.” That went well!!!

I know it's not the point of the OP but I couldn't believe it when we announced we were signing Juanjo from Barcelona, that was proper excitement.

I remember reading a newspaper report which said that we’d beaten Manchester City (who were then in the lower leagues) to the signing of Wyness as we’d approached him on a pre-contact straight after he scored the winning goal for Inverness to knock Celtic out of the cup

As others have posted, the return of Robbo in December 1988.

We'd just clinched a place in the UEFA Cup QF, Sportscene had the highlights of our game in Mostar and Dougie Donnelly started the prog with "Hearts have re-signed John Robertson".

Add the signing of Tosh McKinlay and it was a pretty good few days.
