Rome stirs up the emotions out here - loves being "controversial." The old diehards are guaranteed to be reactionary about sawcer as they're actually threatened by it. It's made huge gains in the last ten years thanks to the national team - and Americans would find it hard to be unpatriotic about a bunch of people playing tiddlywinks if they were wearing the red white & blue - and a sensibly run MLS. Coverage of the Euros is a case in point. Games on ESPN main channels and the final is being shown on ABC national network. All that with not an American in sight.
