Cade
It was not too long ago that the UK was chemically sterilizing and jailing homosexuals. The rest of the world may take time to catch up with modern Western values on personal freedoms. Edited September 3, 2018 by Cade

Tazio
I just think it's a real shame that they only "attempted" it. If you're going to get caned for it you'd think they would have got some practice in beforehand. On a more serious note it is disgraceful how many countries it is still illegal to be gay in. There was a figure put out during the last commonwealth games about the percentage of commonwealth countries it is illegal in and I was shocked. southcap
The reasoning behind 'their country, their rules' could also apple to your neighbour and domestic abuse. Their house, their rules.... Cade
Plenty of Malaysian MPs calling this out and saying that they "need to grow up as a culture". Seems they're on the right track after all and this punishment was handed out by a regional sharia court and not a federal one.

My neighbours come under Scot's Law and therefore western standards. Therfore I have a right upto a point to get involved.
redjambo
Purely for information for those who want to learn more about the LGBT situation in Malaysia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Malaysia It is interesting to note that "A 2013 Pew Research Center opinion survey showed that 9% of the Malaysian population believe homosexuality should be accepted by society, while 86% believe it should not." Unusually, it was older people who were found to be more accepting of homosexuality, not younger people as would have been expected. Malaysia isn't going to be changing its attitudes any day soon. It is kind of like people who speak out over the birkha and defends a woman’s right to wear it (even though, it is unlikely to be by choice), but oppose walk on girls in darts, grid girls in Formula One, as well as the bikini poster you refer to. Hypocrisy is on both sides. Many on the left are oblivious to this.

Ibrahim Tall
Tbh, in a country where it's illegal to then have sex "in a car in a public square" is mind numbingly stupid. The law itself on 'relations' may be backward and the punishment even more so but to break it apparently so publicly is idiotic. Even in the UK if you'd face some sort of prosecution I'd imagine.
