Paltry FIFA/UEFA fines

There has been recent discussion about potential for racism in Russia and it got me thinking that the fines dished out for this but FIFA/UEFA seem really low and must hardly act as a dis-incentive to crack down on it, or other unacceptable behaviour. Russia were fined £22,000 after racist chant at the France game. Surely a points deduction or closed door games should be the first sanction.

This is the only way that the FAs will pay attention. The perpetrators will also think twice and other fans will police these things themselves

Show racism the red card yet fine the Russians about the same amount as a ticket for the WC final they got chose to host regardless of their racist and homophobic reputation

Look at the paltry fines Celtic get hit with. What is it now - 6 offences by their fans in as many years??

Exactly!  Every year they are fined a petty amount for something.  UEFA, SFA me FIFA show that football really doesn't give a shite

Fines are not the way to go.

European sanctions, like immediate bans for the next season's tournament would stop this shit from happening overnight.

It is actually very difficult for a football association or indeed a club to achieve anything against racism or indeed bigotry. The bare minimum is that they condemn it, and even the OF manage to do this of sorts (whilst deflecting by always stating that it is a "tiny minority" of their fans who do it, and are provoked). If a club or football association really wants to do something then they have to do voluntary what only FIFA or UEFA can do and ban themselves/withdraw from a competition...However, this would cause a hullaballoo as "innocent" fans would be punished along with the miscreants. Therefore no club or FA has the bottle to do this...So it falls back upon the top governing bodies once again.
