Footballfirst
I took in a Scotland U15s (2003s) training camp at the Oriam this afternoon where Scotland played two games against Motherwell and Dundee United who fielded a mix of 2003s and 2002s. There were only two Hearts lads involved, Leon Watson and Jay King. Both played in the second game in which Scotland beat Dundee United 3-1. Neither player stood out, but at least they were part of a team that did better than the first group who lost 5-0 to Motherwell.

Footballfirst
I see that Billy Stark is back as coach of the Scotland U19s. It's a retrograde step, if you consider his record as U21 coach. https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/news/billy-stark-confirmed-as-national-youth-team-coach/?rid=13925
Mikey1874
It's a sign of limited thinking going with the same group of coaches. While there has been some good results over years say at U17 level there isn't the evidence of success in identifying the right players who then progress to full international. And results and performances generally seem to have dipped especially a concern at U21. Callum Elliot and Jordan McGhee are examples of players likes of Stark identified and prioritised. Others too. Footballfirst
Anthony McDonald started and Chris Hamilton was on the bench for Scotland U18s in their 1-1 draw with Uzbekistan earlier today. Scotland play France on Saturday in the second of two friendlies being played in Marbella. Marc Leonard also started, although he is now officially a Brighton player. Footballfirst
Three Scotland age group teams have been announced in the past week. U16 - No Hearts players U19 - One Hearts player (Harry Cochrane) U20 - One Hearts player (Callumn Morrison) I don't see any great evidence, as yet, of the Academy producing significantly better players than it did before the current regime took control. While the club may have invested more in the academy in terms of coaching expertise, the bottom line is recruitment of the best available players at every age group. If the general standard isn't up to the mark, then the club needs to be proactive in bringing in fresh talent, even if it means paying training compensation fees to their previous clubs. Hearts U16s did beat Celtic 2-1 in last week's cup semi-final at Tynecastle and will play Aberdeen in the final. However, Aberdeen are particularly strong at that age group and have four players in the Scotland U16 squad. Edit: We had two players in the recent U17 squad (Connor Smith and Cammy Logan) Edited November 5, 2018 by Footballfirst

Edit: We had two players in the recent U17 squad (Connor Smith and Cammy Logan) Although not directly connected to what’s going on at Hearts, I will add that I wouldn’t put too much correlation with National team selection at these age groups to how well players or there clubs youth set ups are faring Its we’ll known that coaches at these age groups have there favorites, sometimes kids who looked great at u14s are still being selected for the national team at U18s because the selectors might know this kid and know what they can do, so rather than give a kid a chance they will stick with what they know. fast forward five years and I’ll guarantee three quarters of the lads playing in these national youth squads will be playing in the juniors for Pollok or Glenafton What I’m saying is that don’t pay too much heed to national teams at this level, the cream will always eventually rise to the top. An example I always cite is Darren Jackson, a lad who at 19 was playing for Broxburn Athletic, but this was a guy who12 years played in the opener in the 1998 World Cup opening for Scotland against Brazil. So the 17/18 year olds, Gilmour, Cochrane, Watt, Mebude, Hamilton, Campbell, Aitchison and few others not selected are all fascinating prospects. Felt last years U17 team (which quite a few have progressed from) had something special about them, and had shown it in quite few games (but sadly seemed to fall apart in the qualification.) It was their first appearances for the national side. Both also started in Hearts U18s 3-0 win over Partick Thistle last night. Ryan was sporting a substantial bandage round his head after sustaining a cut against the Aussies, but it didn't stop him scoring the opening goal. Connor Smith got the other two. Mikey1874
This was another worrying Scotland performance with a lack of guile to break down a packed defence. But they eventually came through with 2 good second half goals. Chris Hamilton was comfortable as usual at the back and got stuck in with some niggle with the Andorra players. Next game is Germany on Tuesday. Edited October 12, 2019 by Mikey1874
Footballfirst
Only one Hearts player named in the Scotland U16 squad for the Victory Shield at the end of the month. Centre back Callum Flatman has only been at Hearts for a couple of years having previously been at Stenhousemuir. He's one of the Balerno HS pupils.
