Eurovision Song Contest 2018

Part of the appeal in the old days was hearing most of the tracks for the first time on the night.

Now they have the semi-finals beforehand so come the Saturday you pretty much know what to expect and who'll likely win it.

Maybe they should just let the countries who reach the final vote on the night too. That way all the old Soviet countries don't do their usual arselicking.

Oh...and ditch Graham Norton!

Conchita's song was superb, all the more so for the nonsense surrounding her participation.

As soon as I heard it first performed in the semi final and the entire crowd was singing along, I knew it would win the whole thing.

Very much this. I watch the semis myself but only because that's where all the gold is and most of it doesn't make the final.

Yes, the Common Linnets for the Netherlands wasn’t it?

Concita Wurst’s song was okay - it was just a Bond theme really.

It was shite and Holland should have won it.

Nicole's one will always be my favourite, mainly cos we sang it at the Christmas school concert that year.

Also notice Norway have Alexander Rybak back this year.

The Israel entry is ******* horrendous.

I quite like Portugal's. 100 times better than last year's creepy ode to the sister.

Israel's will be popular with the televoters, but perhaps less so with the juries.  That's why the French entry is making a showing in the betting - it could be reasonably popular with televoters while also scoring well with juries.

I have a soft spot for the Portuguese song.  It was in the top 5 at the bookies a few weeks ago, but it's a long way back now.  I still think it'll finish on the left side of the scoreboard.

Cyprus with Fuego are now the bookie's favourite.

Albania, Armenia, Denmark and Hungary are my favourites for this year, hoping the first two get through tonight but the odds are against them.

Still not sure about the British entry, obviously we won’t win it but is it good enough for the top ten?

One of the weaker Azerbaijani entries.

Poor Iceland: Rabbit in the headlights.

Quite enjoyed the Azerbaijani song tbh.

Bulgaria meh

Another favourite.

Thought it was decent enough to qualify. Been a pretty weak semi though.

Nice flares from Switzerland.  Not as good as Nicole & Hugo’s from ‘73 though ....
