Yeah, but it was a friendly.

No it wasn't, it was the IoM international football tournament, I watched Wigan beat Portsmouth in the final, friendlies don't have finals!

This is a much easier one:-

At the time, which player had played for all four SC 1998 semi finalists?

There has been at least one addition since then.

I wouldn’t have got that one without researching it.

Which group got to number 1 in the UK with their first single, but didn't have another hit for 12 years, by which time they had a completely different line up?

Spot on!

1970 was the first time the England World Cup Squad released a single, which got to number 1.  England didn't qualify for the finals again until 1982, so their follow up single was 12 years later, with none of the 1970 squad in the line-up.

I think "Back Home" was the name of that single

Nope, no one has got it yet. It’s not two separate players

Smith wasn't the 90's. Only two that it can be are Gillespie and Cole. Unless Findlays right with Bruce's testimonial.

Who's place did he take?

I'll not cheat and look it up. I've not seen it for years, John, but I'd guess the Ipswich goalie of the time? Paul Cooper???

I remember him breaking his arm in a freak dressing room stamp by his captain, who was a West Ham full back.

I guessed Cole earlier but he said no one had got it so must be Gillespie or Bruce.

Off to IMDB

Where I read the guy was actually a left midfielder called Kevin O'Callaghan. Wouldn't have got that in a million years.
