Jam Tarts 1874
You just know the SPL will roll over backwards for the Govanites now. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/7462132.stm Rangers content after SPL talks Rangers chief executive Bain met with SPL chairman Lex Gold Rangers have described talks with the Scottish Premier League as "frank and constructive" as last season's problems with fixture congestion were discussed. "The purpose of the meeting was to 'clear the air' and this was achieved," read a statement on the club website. Rangers were angry at the pile-up of matches in May as they narrowly missed out in the title race to rivals Celtic. The Ibrox club are also unhappy that three of their four opening games next season are away from home. Rangers chairman Sir David Murray and chief executive Martin Bain met with SPL chairman Lex Gold. "Going forward, this exchange of views has now provided a platform for the future," added the Rangers statement. "This will ensure an avoidance of the difficulties encountered last season." Gambo
"This will ensure an avoidance of the difficulties encountered last season." So would not asking for league games before a european game to be cancelled. So would not drawing to many domestic cup games. So would having a pitch that could cope with a rain shower. So would telling the serial grievers to waddle off when they request a game to be cancelled in respect of someone who played for them donks ago. So would telling the SFA to swing when a major international game looms and they ask for a postponement. Have any other club demanded (and received ) a meeting with the SPL when they have to start the season with 3 out of 4 away from home, or do most just get on with it? Spot on Gambo, how many times over the last couple of decades have us or Hibs, or any other team for that matter had 3 out of our first 4 games away? Quite a few I'd guess, but then again....the league isn't geared towards us minions.
djf
Shameful. David Murray should have been carpeted for his comments about the SPL. Not a peep from the media or from the bigwigs. Now Rangers are effectively admitting, "we'll get our own way from now on". What a horrible little competition we "compete" in.

boabster
When's the meeting to discuss what Murray and Bain are going to do about the people who were urinating in the streets of Manchester and looting shops and wrecking property and stealing cash registers and throwing bottles at TV engineers and attempting to murder a policeman while singing their sectarian bile ? Surely the SFA/SPL/UEFA will be holding an in-depth enquiry sometime soon ? No ?

You can't organise the fixtures so that every team plays alternating home and away fixtures throughout the season (obviously). With a twelve team league, these disruptions, where you get two consecutive games at home or away, crop up more frequently. So quite regularly you will get a sequence of four fixtures, three of which are either home or away. Did Rangers FC actually complain about this or was it just one of their stupid fans organisations? If they did complain, they are seriously out of order.

It was Bain who was lecturing the SPL so I assume the club itself did the whining. By the way can 1 club in the SPL act unilaterally in these circumstances? Gavsy Van Gaverson
You'd think that Rangers would WANT to get their away fixtures out of the way asap, as it was their run in of 5 games out of 8 away from home that ruined title run in last season. ****in trumpets.
