AlimOzturk
How do you guys save the cash? Recently realised I was paying ?39 month for fibre broadband. Switch to plus net for ?24.99 a month. Switched to shopping at aldi/lidl and must be saving at least ?30a month. Got rid of Sky couple years ago for Kodi/Netflix saving a fortune. Going to shop around for my leccy hopefully find a saving there.
...a bit disco
Saved up all my Nectar and Clubcard points last year and used them on a whopper of a Xmas dinner. Drink included.
Marvin
I save all my Nectar points. I have spoken with BT and told them about my potential discount (dwp perk) with Vodafone from my current employer and they wrote back to me with an offer of an upgrade on my current package at no extra cost. If I am buying white goods, I ask for a discount on the basis I am paying the whole cost in cash.
AlimOzturk
Ditched the high end phones as well. Currently have a vodaphone platinum 7 every bit as good as a iPhone/smasung Galaxy half the price.
Brick Tamland
I have 3 bank accounts all with different benefits and all gave me at least ?100 to switch. The Nationwide is excellent for going abroad with no charges for withdrawing money in foreign currency and a great transfer rate which is far better than what the ATM gives you. I switch my gas/electricity regularly too. I also use a site called maximiles which gives you points for buying online and also using switching sites. I only buy petrol in BP and Sainsbury's for the nectar points. Plenty savings to be had with the above if you put a couple of minutes per thing into it. IronJambo
I've put ?100 on West Ham to beat Man U on the first game of the season at odds of 13. That's a huge price that I'm expecting to drop to around 7 which if it does I can lay it on the exchange and make a nice profit.
Jambo-Jimbo
Change my House and Car Insurance every year now, if I can find the same level of cover for cheaper, I'm off, no loyalty nowadays. Member of Topcashback and always check to see if I can get cashback before I buy anything online. Ended up with over ?280, which went towards my spending money for this years holiday, it's free money especially if you were buying the product anyway. maroongoals
if changing insurance ,phones, and electric i use topcashback, also when buying white goods, got over ?250 so far this year, got ?80 just from changing electric supplier ( it was on offer)
Mikey1874
I found that making an effort leads to other opportunities. A few years ago I went on a bit of a saving effort. For example got a new bank account giving more interest. In doing so had to change some direct debits. One I changed with British Gas gas central heating sevice ended up saving me ?000s as they messed up and I ended up with a cheaper deal and then cancelling because they gave me hassle going back on this. Breaking habit is one of the benefits. I don't do insurance except my washing machine and tumble dryer which my insurance recently replaced new and an ultra cheap deal when I replaced my electric oven which I've benefitted from. Change my gas and electric regularly. There are schemes eg Money Saving Expert where you register and they do the work continually advising re deals. It has become tougher recently with price rises in last year. But worth it. Worth checking. One scheme I did was run through English councils. One other tip. You can phone your current supplier and ask to move to their cheapest deal. No fees to do this. Get started and opportunities come.
GlasgoJambo
I've been using Quidco for years - earned back about ?900 so far. Switching broadband regularly is the big earner (and of course you're usually saving money by getting a new deal) but basically buying anything on the internet just click on their website first - booking.com, e-buyer, Waitrose - usually only a few quid but for doing practically next to nothing it's worth it. All roads lead to Gorgie
If I need to replace something like say a kettle I now check car boot sales first rather than electrical departments. I use buses less as the fares for short distances are ridiculous and cycling and walking keeps me fit-ish. I use aldi quite often and shop online if I find something cheaper there. Got my car insurance down by switching companies but directly not through a comparison website.

Jambof3tornado
Did a collective switch on my gas and leccy and saved about 380 for the year. Strange thing was british gas my old provider were the cheapest so I saved money by staying with my usual company but on a much cheaper tariff. Bit of a con that they dont put everyone on the cheapest tariff available. Different company for car insurance every year, loyalty get you **** all. You get that with Hotels.com and they have a price match guarantee. They also have reward nights where you get a 'free night' for every ten booked. My last trip, I effectively got around ?80 cash back, and a free night credit worth around ?80 also. This equates to around 20% of the cost of my stay. Paolo
Nectar is such a ******* scam. You get about 0.25p for every ?1 you spend! Not a scam then. They could give you nothing. And it is effectively 0.25% interest, more than most banks give you for their current accounts. And all you are doing is buying what you would normally buy. IronJambo
Good read, always been interested in this but never ventured. Does it involve opening multiple email accounts to take advantage of free bets for new customers? You don't want to be opening more than one account with a bookie, a different email address won't hide your name, address, and date of birth. Free bets for new customers is just the beginning so it's not the end of the world if you already have some accounts.

The app gives you an instant notification when you spend anything on the card and let's you know how much is left and how much you've spent that day. It also categorises each of your spends so that at the end of each month you get a detailed report of where your money is spent (groceries, bevvy, etc). Really handy for budgeting. As you say, it's also really good for spending abroad. It gives you the exchange rate through the app when you arrive and is usually better than the foreign banks. It's effectively a prepaid MasterCard just now but Monzo have just got a license to be a fully fledged bank and are testing their current accounts now. I'd highly recommend it. Yep, I've got one too. if yo need a golden ticket to get to the front of the queue i can give you one...think the waiting list is about 20k people. I mainly use it to transfer spending money in at the start of every month so i can save cash in my normal account....also means the bank cant see what im spending on bevvy and gambling! No charges abroad and you can put instant hold on it if you lose cards etc. Many benefits through the app
