upgotheheads
He seemed of the pace today when he came on, didn't want to attack defenders and turned inside or backwards, often holding on to the ball when he maybe should have released it more quickly. He was slow to react to a nice inside pass from Watt as well. After the injury lay off and suspension I think it might take him a month or two to get back to his best. DC_92
He's at his best behind the striker(s) with no defensive responsibilities. I don't think the way we're playing at the moment really suits that.

mahgrassyshoes
Walker and Nicholson need to look at the quality Tony Watt brings to the team. That is what they need to aspire to. Will they - I dont think so. The only thing stopping them is mentality. Watt has no fear. Confidence bordering on arrogance. Always wants to go forward and take on his man. Nicholson and walker both have to get that if they want to reach their potential.

LarrysRightFoot
Jamie Walker has unreal natural ability. He has been held back by his fitness and injury. IMO if he had had the OFs belief instilled in his m and the confidence and arrogance (like Watt) that comes with it he would be unplayable in this league. That's what we as a club and our players need to aim for. No fear and complete belief in ourselves.

We_are_the_Hearts
Anyone who has played footy will know why Jamie was blowing. When coming on as sub you have to get up to speed immediateley. When starting the game tends to build up so get time to get your 2nd wind. Harder when coming on as sub. Walker was pretty slow and predoctable like the rest when in possession. Need to up the tempo a bit when playing against teams like Partick
Debut 4
Jamie looks constantly injured. I think his knees have had it.i think so. Constant injury just hampers you but that relegates his ability to "decent squad player" for some. People forget how key he was last season playing off Sow. The lad , when fully fit and with a few games under his belt, is a key player. It's not a bad thing Tony Watt is raising the bar either. I'd love it to spark JW into something better but as you say, I think he's having continual niggly problems.

Played his first few passes very safely and it was difficult for him to find the pace right away...which is perfectly understandable. Contributed to a victory.....well done, Jamie. Cwapsy
Thought Walker and Bjorn changed the game. Great management keeping Watt on too. I would have taken him off as he looked knackered. DG_HMFC
Jamie Walker is different class, however, I do agree that he passed the ball backwards and sideways constantly when he came on yesterday. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
wavydavy
How much of this is down to coaching/management? Don't think it is anything to do with that more the mindset of the players. A coach can work all week with the players but the minute they get on the pitch it's down to them, if they choose to do their own thing then that's up to them but then the coach will only take so much of that. When a players first instinct is to turn backwards especially for an alleged attacking player then there is something wrong. In Walker's case I think he just does not seem that interested half the time and lacks confidence, he's too busy worrying about his dodgy knee. He needs to work muich harder and get his mind sorted out and start doing what he is best at which is running at defenders and having shots on goal, more game time will helo him to assuming he doesn't get injured again. wavydavy
Don't think that is the case. I think he will again be a key player and unlike Watt he is signed to us for more than this season Watt has a point to prove whereas I think Walker is the opposite he thinks he has it made whereas in reality he should be putting in the same amount of effort as Watt. On his game he is a good player but he's not on his game often enough for me and often looks disinterested. It's early on in the season and he has missed the last two games before yesyerday but it will be interesting to see how his contribution transpires throughout the season. RN said after he returned towards the end of last season that he was still feeling a bit of pain in the knee that he'd had surgery on. I think a lot will depend on whether that pain has now gone as he's built his strength and fitness back up. If it's still there, and is something he's just going to have to put up with throughout his career, I don't think he'll ever get to the level a lot of us think he's potentially capable of, as I think he'll always have a lack of confidence, or a bit of a worry that the knee will go at some point. If he is now pain free, I think it's just a case of him needing a month or two to find his form and get motoring.

I dont think this was the case to be honest as soon as partick equalised they had pretty much every man behind the ball and where very compact. Very difficult to break them down. portobellojambo1
Missed 2 matches so not sharp but he was a bit like barry 'backpass' ferguson today!! Djoum not quite reaching the levels we have seen previously. I didn't realise there was a separate thread about Jamie, was posting comments on his display yesterday elsewhere on here. I am hoping the performance, or lack of performance we saw from him yesterday was due to being suspended for a couple of weeks rather than what we can expect to see going forward due potentially to ongoing problems with his knee. Djoum, I feel sorry for. We all saw last season just what he can do for the team. For the last couple of months of last season and so far this season he seems to be the man that gets moved about as others bed into the side and it is impacting on his performance (the problem is if the team are winning then all I can offer is I feel sorry for him, but requirement 1 is to win football matches). A_A wehatethehibs
He is an important player for us as is Nicholson but one thing from this thread I definitely agree with, they now have better quality team mates than they have had since playing for Hearts. Which means they must both have a big challenge if they want to continue to stand out at Hearts - they need to do more, and be more consistent. It's possible they gave him a specific job to do with ball retention yesterday but I think anonymous performances is not something which will be suffered for long at Hearts. Watt had a good few of them yesterday. Walker basically looked rusty, as he would be after a disjointed pre season and lack of a game for three weeks. He played rather narrow but can only assume this was an instruction as the entire team did, leading to congestion 30 yards from there goal.
