Andrew Gilbert Wauchope
Hallam FC's Sandygate ground (only about 20 minutes walk from me) is officially the oldest football ground in the world. This article gives a nice potted history. http://footycity.com/the-oldest-ground-in-the-world/When I'm not listening to the Lawrie's commentaries on t'interweb - or just feel a need for live football - I daunder up there. Fiver to get in, Good clubhouse with reasonable beer, better view than we get at Ibrox - and the football's usually not bad. If you're ever in the area, it's worth a visit. I always though Sheffield United held the record with Bramall Lane, since 1855?

redjambo
I always though Sheffield United held the record with Bramall Lane, since 1855? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bramall_Lane Bramall Lane started out as a cricket ground, but didn't host its first football game until 1862. The first football game at Sandygate took place in 1860.

Andrew Gilbert Wauchope
Claims to be second oldest club in the world??? It is. And each year, it plays in the world's oldest derby match, against Sheffield FC, the world's oldest club (who now play in Dronfield, between Sheffield and Chesterfield). I'll be heading up there this season. I've done Sheffield FC, so thought I'd better get the oldest ground as well. I love non league grounds. I can take the dog with me (to most of them), can get a pint and move around without some steward telling to to sit down and shut up.
