Coco
Anyone else go along to this last night? http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/politics/First-Scotsman-Debate-sees-.4130154.jp I thought it was a reasonable debate. I suspect that it would be more interesting if the audience wasn't self selecting (ie there were obviously more independence supporters than status quo/removal of Scottish Parliament supporters). All the speakers said some interesting things at times. It would seem to me that we do have a situation which has moved on slightly. No one is now decrying the rights of Scotland to decide whether we want to be independent - and all the speakers argued that Scotland could be a successful independent nation. The debate is becoming slightly more sophisticated - and it was noticeable that the 'fiscal deficit' projection was barely mentioned by anyone. More people are realising I think that it is not necessarily the case that the promotion of the dependency culture and tax and squander Government that we have had in Scotland for 40-50 years would have to continue in an independent Scotland. An interesting debate anyway.
