National Performance Centre progress

A couple of photos from earlier today.

The artificial surface should have been handed over this week, but is two weeks behind schedule so should be handed over in early August.  The official Academy matches don't start until the middle of the month so there's no significant impact from the delay.

The white surface in the photo below is the "shockpad" that has been partly laid over a gravel base. The shockpad provides a cushioning effect below the artificial grass, which itself will have sand and rubber crumbs mixed in with the "grass" fibres to get the required consistency of performance for the surface.

I played on the new indoor surface last week, really good surface. You have to wear studds on it no trainers allowed.

I'll have to get some updated pics as a lot more of the steel work has gone up and the new artificial surface has been laid.

The new surface has been laid but there is still no markings on the pitch, there is also still no railings in place yet around the pitch.

Do you know where the Academy games are being played at the moment?

Hearts U11s/U12s were supposed to be at home to Aberdeen today and the U13s/U14s at home to Hamilton tomorrow.

not sure mate, but we are meant to be at home to killie next Sunday. The astro looks about ready other than the pitch markings and the railings reinstalled.

How long have we got left of the pieman's 25 year deal, or did they terminate the existing deal when we went into administration due them money? Is the current situation known?

The position has never been made clear by the club.  The original 25 year deal should have lasted until 2029.  It may be that the "rental" we pay could go up as the facilities improve.

In the recent Q&A, Brian Cormack didn't really answer the question either

12. Riccarton Part Two: What is the club?s position within the new National Performance Centre? Will the venue reflect Hearts' presence there in terms of branding and will we still have the same rights to use the facilities on offer? Will it still feel like our day-to-day HQ?

I understand that there will be Hearts branding there. The fact that Hearts already had an academy there was seen as a very positive element of the original bid proposal for the NPC.

A couple of photos taken earlier today.  I'm sure that the contractors will want the roofing elements to be largely completed before the winter sets in so that they can continue work indoors. The re-laid and re-sown grass pitches also seem to be progressing well and look like they will be ready to play on with another month's growth.

Played there on Wednesday, that building is huge! I didn't realise the scale of it until Wednesday, we are so lucky to be getting this facility.

Wow that's just incredible, I know it's not ours but proud all the same and about time Scotland had facilities like this.

I remember the original specs posted on here and really had no idea of the scale.

When you think about where we were as a club just 18 short months ago, it's hard to believe how well it's gone since then- how lucky are we to be the professional club that gets to be based at this magnificent facility?

It's got to be a huge draw for recruiting players in the future too, exciting times ahead!

Absolutely spot on. Fantastic facilities in a great location.

Everything is moving in the right direction.

Oriam "a great hunter or "son of light"...name of a constellation"

"Orion" is the hunter or constellation

"Oriam" is simply "I am Gold" or Gaelic for Gold

It's not a great name, puts me in mind of the failure that was Consignia. Fortunately the quality of facilities should mean that it won't matter
