THE MCGHEE SUPREMACY

Recommended Posts

Quint
I was told its a done deal yesterday.

The good news is, he must have had assurances from Vlad that there would be no interference otherwise he wouldnt come. Hopefully a sign that Vlad is finally seeing sense.

The way i see it for someone in a job to take on the job is a massive positive. If we end up with Billy Davies who is out of a job then i would be more worried.

For any one taking on the job its going to be ok...Do well get in to europe, win a cup, maybe outside shot a league - fantastic job massive plaudits.

On the other hand end up in the bottom six or worse (Shudder!!) its all Vlads fault. Its a no lose situation.

Cant believe people still talk about team control with a new manager !!

They will have detailed contracts. If a proper manager wants the hearts job they will simply have a clause that says any interference and they walk away scot free with ?1 million (Or more) in their back pocket !!

Not difficult to do for a lawyer who specialises in these things I imagine..

Exactly, if McGhee does get the job he will have full control, and a phat clause inserted just in case. Burley wouldn't have had one as I'd assume he wouldn't see the need but McGhee would have to be a fool not to insist on it given Vlad's track record.

I will renew the day he is pictured at Tynie with a scarf held above his head and be delighted to do so but not before.

There is no way a man like McGhee will sign on the dotted line without some serious assurances about what he is getting himself into so we really need to know whether talks have already taken place and full autonomy guaranteed or he has merely been sounded out and has shown an interest without any serious discussion.

For me one of the best things about appointing McGhee is that he will have first hand knowledge about just how bad we have been for the last 2 years and will know plenty about the dross in our squad and also those who are underachieving. He has also worked with Clum so will know how useless he is - BONUS ! Given free reign over the 1st team I would hope the squad would be revamped quickly.

See the thing is that goes agains what Rodders said at the AGM,did he not say that,in so many words,Vlad would still want some controle in the first team?

Do we all throw a fit, crying about being promised McGhee, how the club has lied to us again and we are being treated like dumb fools....they had no intention of getting a real manager?

If you want too. :hobofish:

Excellent news if it all turns out to be true.

I doubt McGhee would take the job just to be a puppet.

For the first time in a while, I'll be able to say well done Vlad.

Rodders is a nimrod, I wouldn't pay any attention to the lanky wee fecker ;)

Just can't see round an iron clad contract, McGhee could easily stay at Motherwell and try for UEFA or look down south. Though I'm sure more money is involved what would be the point of him going to Tynie knowing he could be leaving within a couple of months or his rep getting whacked with pish teams and poor results? He'll have asked for full team autonomy and though I'm sure Vlad with have final say on transfers etc that is fair enough, same as any other team.

Great if he is appointed - he sure as hell wouldn't be coming without cast iron guarantees about his position.

Hopefully he'll start a clear out on his arrival.

What you going to do if it's not announced until mid June ?

What's the betting, they extend the ST renewal deadline ;)

No but someone there must have known that MM had already been aproached and was willing to sign,FFS a wee word in RRs ear and they could have had a positive spin quite easily, instead they side stepped the issue with yet more guff.

IMO had they or anyone known that MM was ready to sign or anyone for that matter there would have been far more noises made instead of letting fans down once again.

Absolute nap, you will be able to buy a ST right up to the first home game if not the 2nd or 3rd home game.

Bookies wouldnt take bets on McGhee about a month ago so I dont know which ones he is talking about. I e-mailed every bookie going asking for odds on the next Hearts manager and asked for odds on a few including McGhee but they all told me to get tae ...

JL i just did a google search and tried oddschecker and betfair and couldnt see any odds on it so think Donkey is just speaking metaphorically.

Supposing it's true or not the PR dept would be mad not to jump on the bandwagon.

Saying something like "because of recent events, which we cannot discuss,we are extendint the ST renewal date to thank our loyal fans for their trust in us" FFS people would be creaming themselfs thinking that it's true.

Is Mcghee better or worse a manager than an unknown (quantity, at the time) Burley was ?

While I am delighted with this news (or rumour) he is never as good a signing as Burley.

Burley was anything but an unknown quantity. Premiership manager of the year with Ipswich and somehow managed to get them into Europe!

I was stunned when we signed Burley, basically because he is top class and has been for a while now.

TALK 107 UPDATE

Bookies have made Mark McGhee the odds-on favourite to become the next manager of Hearts. It looks as though Thursday's fixture against Hibs at Easter Road will be his last in charge of Motherwell. He's then expected to swap Fir Park for Tynecastle - with confirmation of the switch likely when McGhee returns from a summer break next month.

:)

Weird feeling somewhere between disbelief and excitement.

The good thing about this going so public is that Motherwell's board is much like Dundee United's, they're very protective of their manager and they will move to have McGhee publicly deny he's moving. If nothing comes out from Motherwell over the next 48hrs I'd be convinced this is very real.

Also, Mark Donaldson is a very robust journalist and he wouldn't put his name to anything that was speculation.

For all those who have already started ******-a-doodle-dooing about how they are responsible in whole or in part for the appointment of Mark McGhee, before the event has even happened, and to prevent the strutting around the coop by said cockerels if and when it does happen, I think I should just let you know that I prayed about this and asked the Lord to give Vlad a vision -

of the biggest hemorrhoids ever with the message that they would be all his if he didn't keep his promise!!!

THAT proved to be a lot more convincing than holding off on buying a season ticket!!!!

If such a done deal, I see no reason to wait till next month when he returns from his summer break.

As I said earlier, I will wait to a scarf is held above the head.

Maybe the non-renewers should get some credit for making Vlad listen if a manager is put in place who Vlad gives control and a free hand for signings?

You must be joking if you believe that the non-renewers had any influence on VR. I think he has had somebody like McGhee lined up for some time and had to wait till the season finished before announcing the news.

All the non-renewers have done is set themselves up for an increase in the price of renewing and putting more cash into HMFC.

BTW I was hoping it would be Craig Levein 'cos I'm not so sure tha McGhee is all that good.

So the late renewers will have benefitted the club and are therefore better fans than the early birds?? :P

As I said - couldnt be proven either way

There wasnt talk of any ticket boycott when we were talking to any serious manager since Burley was emptied and we didnt sign any serious manager.

I think its safe to assume Romanov would continue with the "Frail" / Kaunas type appointment if he felt he could get away with it.

I was actually suggesting the late renewers have had NO effect whatsoever, if the story is true. They will eventually benefit the club if/when they fork out their extra ?30 or ?40 which by my reckoning will give an extra ?200k towards MM's budget.

Burley was a once in a lifetime manager where everything fitted in to place rightly, it was exactly the right time for him to come to hearts, was able to bring in the right players through nous and a bit of luck, and his style of play seemed to fit in with the new players and the long term committed players. He also made the players 'believe'.

Also the fans were on such a high that we carried them through that unbeaten run at the start of the season. We wouldn't of beat Rangers at Tynecastle that time if it wasn't for the fans, im sure of it!

Damn, i want to get excited again but i feel we should wait n see.

If thats true why did the club let the last AGM have such a negative effect on the club,FFS all it would have taken was for someone to say"we have identified a manager and hopefully we can comment more soon" or some thing along those lines.

IMO if he was offered and accepted the job their would have been some kind of positive spin from Hearts.

I agree, for him the only way is down with Motherwell, yes they can win one or two games in Europe but there is alot more potential at Hearts and Hearts have everything bigger. As long as he has reassurances or a clause in his contract that there is no intereference in the playing side (only maybe final say on transfers) then I can see Hearts as a big pull for a manager.

And he might get sacked 10 games into the season.

The real cynic in me says that (if he comes at all) it will deal with the season ticket sales to at least the level of last season then will be sacked immediately.

Vlads point of view seasons money in conned the supporters again (gosh they really are stupid these Scots) move some more 3rd division level foreigners in again and it's "job done"

But a stable working condition and a european adventure is what they do have. Although more than likely they'll get pumped in the first round.

Burley was a once in a lifetime manager....

...who was emptied after 3 months :(

Its funny because a club the size of Hearts you would have thought that Rix would have been the once in a lifetime manager, but then we got Valdas, then Malofeev, then Korbochka, then Chervenkov, then Frail.....

You're probably right in what you say though to an extent, but even then, there is the once in a lifetime manager, but there should be, at least, one competent manager out of every two hired. Surely that would be the minimum expected of a club owner??
