Scotsport R.I.P

I'M IBRAHIM TALL

I appreciate its been ***** lately, but its sad to see Scotsport go. Magic memories of waiting for Bamber Gascoigne and his squad of Little Lord Fontelroys shift their arse on Tax Dodgers Challenge for the football to start. Old Arthur and Ian Archer (who always looked like he was suffering from a mother of a hangover) presenting highlights from Cappielow and Boghead. Magic.

Its obviously much more convenient, but theres something a bit sad being able to watch games minutes after they end on the InTranent. All the mystique of broadcasting is gone these days.

So long Scotsport. You've been a good friend.

Scotsport was a venerable and enjoyable institution that always had a backbone of non-OF contrubutors - fair coverage - and then, lo and behold, it became a kind of Care Home for the Really Infirm Old Firm Acolytes - and the quality went out the window and in came all the OF garbage!!!

John Colquhoun, you were the shining example that proved the rule!!!

Arthur Montford's sports jackets and the late 70's early 80's theme tune will live forever.

when it came back the format was horrendous, but the new improved Scotsport of this season has been more like the old days (still irritating though with Walker and whenever Keevans was on).

where i think STV are missing a trick is that they could make Scotsport an internet program. doesn't take much to get those duffers in mid week and have it like a podcast.

i'll still miss it despite it being annoying.

I'm glad that they are being made redundant. Bunch of OF apologists with the exception of JC obviously.

When will Scottish TV executives realise what football fans want?

We didn't want to see some Orcadian bawbag presiding over a 'keepie-uppie' competition or a munter from Ireland, with no clue about Scottish football, canvassing the opinion of reliably ugly Old Firm fans on some plastic terracing.

They eventually took the hint and ditched them; only to replace that format with a show presented by Andy Wa*ker and 'Brother of the Beast' and the insights of smug, know-nothing OF sympathisers like Keevins et al.

Is the pool of talent really that limited in Scotland that Stott, Walker, Keevins, Booth, Burley (Craig) are the best we have to offer? It offers a strong argument against Scottish independence.

Just show us the football followed by some expert analysis by people who don't evoke the desire to put your foot through the TV (e.g. Colquhoun and Spiers)

Could be worse though:

The Scotsport you refer to died a long, long time ago. The most recent incarnation of this venerable institution was a poor, poor, pale imitation which in fact had only the brand name in common with its predecessor.

Oh, news just in....Mr D McIvor from Carluke wins the John Letters golf clubs competition... Well done Mr McIvor!

Little known fact - my Dad had an interview for Scotsport when it first started in the 1950's. He met Arthur Montford and everything. Obviously he failed the interview when they a) noticed his EH postcode B) said Hearts when asked which team he supported.....:(

RIP - I don't think so.

This programmae may have been watchable 20 years ago, but it is now a shambles. Glad it is gone.

I hope Andy Walker, Grant Stott, Hugh Keevins and Gerry McNee burn in hell ;)

Not sorry to see it go at all.

The BBC online highlights were about the same length but without the drivel in between and having to stay up half the night to see the games.

Scotsport's a genuine laughing stock. Since it went all informal it's been a joke.

The hammy presenters and crap set, the stupid day and time it's on each week - it's garbage.

It's lowest point was when that Chookter cant and the daft blonde presented it. It was a complete disaster. The bit when they'd ask the fans in the studio made me squirm each week with embarrassment.

Die Scotsport.

The one thing I will miss is the music. STV have in incredible talent for producing incredibly rank theme tunes. The original was so bad is was good.

I always found it amusing when they claimed to be the longest running football programme in the world, when the real reason for that was that, having coined the title "Scotsport" all these years ago, they were unable to dream up another. As the programme changed over the years it remained "Scotsport".

I won't miss Archie, Walker, Keevins, Stott etc., as I seldom tuned in to hear their O.F. loaded drivel. I regret that I, thus, usually missed J.C.'s contributions.

Pathetic excuse of a program and I'm glad it's gone. It was good on Sunday's and back in the days of jerry mcnee and Jim Whye (gee us the sash) and when the callers phoned in.

The last year it was good was 2001-02 i think. It started it's nitemare in 2004 when graham spiers played the piano to end what had been an embarrassing 1st show on a stupid time!

It's shan as **** and I hope it is never brought back!

Mr Romanov Saviour of HMFC

The best part of Scotsport over the last few years was the long throw competition. Think Robbie won it?

Then they had a 10 minute piece on what the fecking cleaner at Hampden's day consists of.

I can just imagine Gary Lineker and Hansen sitting pishing themselves while watching Julian ******ing Sinclair talking crap and standing beside some daft bint chewing a wasp.

Then you had this muppet:

0708-Andy-Walker-2.jpg

The only presenter/pundit in world football to come across that badly on TV that 18,000 people sang about him being a w*nker at the top of their voice.

You couldn't make it up .... well some weedgie tosser managed to!

Only a BBC highlights programme on a Saturday evening will do. No adverts and plenty football, like we get for Scottish Cup matches. But is that what we'll be getting?

I moaned my bum off about it every week but I still watched it, and while I'm not sorry to see the back of Walker and Stott (what a dreamteam that was) I do hope that the Beeb have been doing their research and take JC and Spiers. JC might be a god to us Jambos but it speaks volumes that fans of other teams also hold him in high esteem....he's respected across the board. He's not a 'front man' as such but they should hang on to him for his comments and insight. And Spiers might sound like he really should be discussing rugby or maybe even horticulture or something...but once you get over that, he speaks pretty good sense most of the time. For a journalist, his views provide a refreshing alternative to the Murray Club norm.

Scotsport might be dead but I don't think its buried. We'll see it make yet another comeback one day....
