One day in May

Recommended Posts

Generations unite in this famous old town,

To witness their heroes return with the crown,

Royal Mile and the mound both capture the sight,

Whilst Gorgie, in glory will party tonight,

Young children on shoulders cheer midst the throng,

In ignorant bliss they join in the song,

Every man, girl, woman and boy,

Will today all savour this unconfined joy,

Ass I pass the crowds I spy an old man,

Wheeled out in his chair, an ordinary fan,

My heart swells as I look in his eye,

With a satisfied nod he lets out a sigh,

Gone are the years of disappointment and pain,

As our icons courted victory but always in vain,

Evaporated under the baking hot sun,

No longer losers, for now we have won,

? Its over? we cry After thirty six years,

We?ll celebrate with vigour, though there well may be tears,

But those salted droplets will be shed in a way,

That only means happiness this wonderful day,

And to those gallant boys atop of the bus,

In awe of what their achievements mean to all of us,

The supporters will revere them as heroes ?mongst men,

And recall for their children this day once again,

For a moment I step back, away from the masses,

And look down on this family, raising their glasses,

And try to fathom this great depth of feeling,

I share in their Joy, I share in their healing,

This community triumphed today in the west,

We stand tall with pride above all the rest,

Adversity vanquished and the lows all now gone

With courage and strength a new age will dawn,

So, with pride in ourselves throughout this sensation,

We acknowledge the praise from all in our nation,

Now number one in the footballing charts,

Evermore we will follow, a team called THE HEARTS !!!!

There is a reason for everything, and my name is no exception.

Fine words. Happy anniversary to all (belatedly).
