What hours do you work?

Bit of a boring subject, but having kids, I have worked Compressed hours for approximately 6 years now.

I currently work 08.30 - 19.30 Mon, Tues and Wed, with a 08.00 - 13.00 on a Sat thrown in (Ocassionally :whistling;)

I have recently got another job within my bank which is seeing me move to core hours. (i.e Mon - Fri 09.00 - 16.30).

I love my compressed hours, and gives me loads of free time for spending with my kids and following my rubbish football team. Just wanting to know the pro's and con's of working core hours.

I work whatever hours I want mate, it's the beauty of being self employed! ;)

Normally do around 30-40 hours a week though, but when I get busy again I reckon I'll be 40-55!

Yes, but you include your 3 hours lunchbreak each day in that 30-40 hours.

I reckon you work 4 hours per day, thats 20 per week, max. And travelling to and fro appointments doesn't count as working.

Of course it does, anytime away from the house counts as working time, and also time online doing research for work purposes and giving advice on footy forums ;)

Today I got picked up at 10am and was home at 14.30, tomorrow I,m getting picked up at 9am and could be home by midday or it might be midnight! Nature of my work and the fact its a 2 man firm means I never know when I,ll be home from 1 day to the next. And that includes lots of Saturdays and Sundays!

Quite well paid for it tho, it has to be with 2 wommen and 2 bikes!

If you think that doesn't count as work wait till you have to start dealing with people who charge a basic ?350 for signing a letter, and on invoices spin it out as an hour's work charged at ?650 per hour.

My working week can be any times between 07:30 am and 22:00, depending on how busy I am, latest I have left the office is 23:35.

I'm erm... between jobs right now.

My old job at Agenda offered up a wide variety of shifts, most of which I had little say in.

06:30 - 15:30

07:00 - 16:00

08:00 - 18:00

11:00 - 21:00

12:00 - 22:00

15:00 - 23:30 (weekdays)

15:00 - 01:30 (weekends)

18:00 - 23:30

18:00 - 01:30

Sometimes a 15:00 - 01:30 saturday shift would be followed by a 06:30 - 15:30 on a Sunday morning with the hotel also sticking to the ridiculous policy of not allowing staff to stay in the hotel even when there were rooms or the room that managers were allowed to stay in. That meant I'd get to bed at 02:00 and would have to be up again before 06:00.

I knew this was illegal but didn't mind too much at times because it at least got my shifts out of the way. However, since I left a member of staff complained about this and the current management have been severley bollocked by head office for using such a policy.

Let's just say I don't miss the place!

I'm self-employed as well.

I work on a Monday, 7am-12pm (sometimes finish earlier).

Tues-Fri, 5am-12pm.

I like being finished early in the day but having started so early for 8 years now, it is taking its toll. I feel tired a lot more than I would like.

However, the work is well paid & fairly flexible. I like being available for my kids a lot as well.

My main gripe is holidays. I would love to be able to take a block of 2 weeks every summer & a fair few long weekends. Just not possible at the moment.

I work 3pm to 4.45pm on a Saturday around four or five times a year. The rest of the time I jet around the world pulling stunning burds on the way. My employer just gave me a great new contract worth about 12 grand a week.............................................................................I wish.

Wouldn't it be great if these things happened in real life?

Going back to work in July after being off on maternity leave since November. New hours are 9 till 6 Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday which means every weekend is a long weekend for me

Officially 9 to 5 but usually in after 8 and sometimes finish after 6. Main problem is that my Depots cover the south of England so I can often have a 1.5 to 2 .5 hour journey at the start and/or end of the day and a few nights away.

I am dreading getting a full-time job as I am far too laid back.

Only work 8 hours a week so far (I'm a student). My supervisors don't really like me. Lets just say when they want someone to work a saturday shift the answer they get from me isn't yes.

I was the same but you get used to it once you get into it. Helps if it's a half decent job.

I quite like bar work so a 50 hour week working in Agenda felt like it would go past a lot quicker compared with the 21 hour weeks I used to do when I worked in a call centre.

I generally try to earn money at poker most nights though.

:P

Just had my favorite ever win mate.

Had ?30 on over 2.5 goals in the Leeds game at over evens.

Turned over in disgust when it was 2-0 about 5 minutes into stoppage time.

Go on the Betfair forum and see Dougie Freedman has made it 2-1 in the dying second! :):):):):)

Part of the reason my attendance was poor this year.

Has came back to bite me in the erse. I missed handing in an assignment for Rob Brown so I'm waiting for him to get back from wherever the hell he is so I can suck up his erse. Looks like I'll have to re-admit it in the summer which will be tricky given that I'm in Ibiza, will just have to get someone to hand in it for me. Hopefully they'll let me do it before I go.

8-5 with an hour lunch. I wish. More like 8-6 with half an hour for lunch. If I wasn't such a half-ersed basturt it would probably be rigidly 8-5 though.

Not trying to outdo you but I had my biggest ever gambling win last night.

Played a ?20 qualifier on Saturday night to get into a ?150 poker tourney on Sunday. Won that so won entry to the ?150 game and when there was only 8 of us left out of the 51 that entered last night we agreed to split the prize pot and took home ?950 each.

?20 into ?950 = ecstatic!

Only a Game

I was working mental hours for months on end, and I was the boss.

Now I dont go in until ten so that if I have to work late at least Ive had a lie in beforehand.

Weekends are NOT part of my working life so thats one good thing I spose ,but during the week can sometimes be 50 hours or more.

Apologies for the off topic post but I need to vent somewhere where people understand the frustration! (I work either 8-4 or 10-6 by the way and can claim time back if I have to fly anywhere...)

Haven't played the casino tournaments in a while, but play the Diane's Nuts poker league game on a Monday night because it's a decent crowd and there's at least 10-15 good players out of an average field of about 45(which is better than the casinos a lot of the time!). I was running well for ages, getting to the final table 7 out of 8 tournaments, peaking 2 weeks ago when I took it down. Trouble is, it seems I HAVE peaked!

Last week I played pretty average, and when I moved in with about 12 big blinds over a standard raise I wasn't surprised to see I was ahead in a coin-flip, which I inevitably lost. No big deal...

Last night though was sick. First hand of the night and I'm on the button with Pocket Js. It's 8 handed, and all bar one player ahead of me limps in (blinds are 25,50). I really want to either take the pot there or have a much better idea of where my cards stand so I raise it 250 (oversized I know, but the number of players in the pot bothered me). EVERYBODY calls (bar the blinds), so the pot's around 1300.

Flop comes 4c,8d,Jd so I've got top set.

Action Checks round to the guy on my right, who bets 200. Bit wary of the 2 diamonds and think the undersized raise (considering the pot) is him wanting me to just call and give him a free (or almost free) card. Played with this guy before and know he'd call anything with A,8 (or maybe even A,4 sometimes) so I pushed all in (starting stacks were 3000)- he turns over 9d,10d for the open ended straight flush draw. Turn comes 6d and the board doesn't pair on the river which leaves me as the second player out in the whole tournament.

Most frustrating thing is, I can't really blame the other guy for playing it badly (though I don't think he actually ever considered the fact the only reason he should have called preflop was because he'd been priced in preflop by the other callers- just think he's the sort of player that gets really attached to suited connectors). I know nobody likes hearing bad-beat stories (and it's not even really a bad beat since the guy probably did the right thing at each stage) but it sucks flopping top set first hand in a big pot and losing it. To the other poker players on here- do you think you'd have played it any differently, or do you think if I had played it differently there would have been a way of getting away from it?
