Midloth_Iain
I had the pleasure of dining in Calistoga last night for the first time, small Californian joint next to The Maltings at St Leonards. Food was wonderful, carafe of house red was splendid ! Not the cheapest but as it was my b'day I wasnt paying They also do wine tasting if booked in advance. So boys and girls, ate anywhere nice recently ?

For me Restaurant Martin Wishart wins hands down every time for quality of food and service however that is quite pricey.

Medico
had the unfortunate pleasure of going to zizzi's on thursday....absolute pish I never understand why people recommend that place, I've been dragged several times with friends and never think its worth the money you pay! Yet everyone goes on about their 'amazing pizza' - had better myself. Is maybe a bit far out for a lot of people, but if you're ever anywhere near Gleneagles Hotel they opened up a new restaurant called 'Deseo' last summer. Is quite expensive but really nice food. Mediterranean based food, but basically the theory behind it is 'whatever you desire' - so you can pretty much ask for whatever you want. Open kitchen too so you can see all the chefs cooking. Evening is mostly fresh meat & fish, on show so you can choose which bit you want. There's some slightly cheaper things like pizzas (made in a big wood oven) and pasta on the menu too. Lunchtime they have a tapas menu which I would highly recommend. Oh and desserts are all on show in a cabinet too so you can look before choosing Well worth it for a special occasion I'd say
Alan_R
...theres a catch. She is so fussy, she just eats crap. She'll only eat really boring stuff, macaroni, lasagne or chips and a burger or something. Its pathetic. Where as I love my food. Chinese, thai, mexican, indian anything spicy really. We usually end up in llyods bar with me havin a steak. least its cheap as you like which is a bonus. I dont mind paying more but I don't want to pay a fortune for grub either. can some genius recommend somewhere we might both be happy?

Means she can get stuff that is like her usual but because you get 3 or 4 each you can get her to try something different by giving her a bite of yours. Plus, La Tasca is ace. Especially the meatballs.

Boris
Went to Howies on Waterloo Place last weekend. Wasn't great, but it was ok. Relatively cheap too. For fine dining give The Stockbridge Restaurant a go. The Chef is tops. Cafe St Honore in Thistle Street Lane gets a thumbs up from me too. Say What Again
Best food I've had in a long time was at the Glasshouse in Musselburgh. I wasn't overly taken by the surroundings but the food was fantastic! Sea bream in a mussel broth
