Torres' red card (NHC)

He should have been sent off for the clawing alone. You could see big red lines on Vertonghen's face/neck after it.

Away from that though his second booking was a bit of a joke. He has challenged for a ball in the air and he is looking at the ball the whole time. There didn't appear to be anything wrong with it to me.

They should troll the feck out of him and officially apologise for the second yellow which cannot be rescinded, before giving him a retrospective ban for the claw :D

Well, remember he's a Johnny Foreigner and they introduced diving to the British game, so he is obviously a rotter.

Ashley "Hibby" Young must be an acolyte!

Remember, no one ever dived until Rudi came to Hearts and, doing a "Miko" is now an accredited phrase or saying in the dark and dingy corridors of the Beeb.

Wonder if Miko saw old film of Davie Wilson of Rangers in the 60's?

The embarrassment alone should be enough punishment for him. That and the fact he's been shite for about 3 years now.

Serious question guys... how many men let their nails grow long enough to enable them to 'claw' another mans face?!?!

This is overused these days, and I rarely wheel it out, but sometimes it is the only thing appropriate:

2011?present Chelsea played 87 scored 15

From good old wiki: On 15 May 2013, Torres won the UEFA Europa League with Chelsea, joining team-mate Juan Mata to become the first players to have held all 4 of the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup and the European Championships simultaneously.

Wish I had that shite a career in last 3 years!!!!!

Clawing is nasty, no matter how long your nails are.

If you are playing footy, you might get a boot in the head, might get hit with a late tackle, this is what you would expect. You do not expect to get bitten or clawed.

Biting, gouging- clawing is in with that, not got a place in football, should get an additional ban and the special one and Chelsea could do themselves a favor and not defend him, would only make the club look ridiculous as well.

I watched it in real time and it did look like he went for Vertonghen.

The replays show it wasn't though.

Can't blame the ref for giving the yellow.

You can blame the ref for he booked him for something that never happened..............so he did not see the offence yet still booked him, thinking not knowing, he had fouled the other player.

Referees are subject to influence despite the total rubbish the football authorities spout about that not being so and refereeing without fear or bias.

I think the frustration of another awful performance was too much for him, he really is pish now, although he was never more than a very good EPL player for 18 months or so.

Not sure what you're saying here?

Real time it looked like he went for him. Slow mo its clear he didn't? Both cases it looks like he attempts to take his nails down Vertongen's face. The photograph stills in the papers also clearly show this and make it look every bit as bad as it was.

FT is world class. To his credit, he stays on his feet when other strikers go down under challenges. He's looked a different player this season from last but the moment of madness should result in an extended ban.

As you said in another thread, its all about opinions. Had you brought undisputed facts to the table then perhaps I'd hae looked at them and been able to agree.

The only fact you generally do bring is that you're one of the top trolls therefore very little you do state carries any weight!

As Blackford said, 15 goals in 87 since 2011.

In the same time, Peter Crouch has scored 17 in 70.

In conclusion: Fernando Torres =

1. Fernando Torres isn't world class in any sense. Despite his medals. He used to be though.

2. Fernando Torres a diving cheat. To say he "stays on his feet when others wouldn't baffles me.

3. Torrres looks much the same as last season. Good link up play, offers the occasional goal and has fast feet. He scored a fair few European goals last year that people seem to forget about. He'll still not score many in the league this season IMO.

He's a decent player, but he's been dining out on a phenomenal couple of seasons at Liverpool without ever coming close to matching them.

Torres scored 23 goals last season alone, so that is incorrect.

Were they not in the diddy europa league?

Fernando Torres wouldn't make the starting eleven or the subs bench if you were choosing a World XI.

Therefore, he isn't world class.

Torres was sent off for a second yellow completely unrelated to any face gauging.

At the time on first watch 'in real time' it looked like Torres intentionally jumped into Vertonghen and seemed a clear second yellow.

When viewing from a different angle on the replay, it was clear Torres did not intentionally jump into Vertonghen and should not have received a second yellow.

But yes, the unpunished face gauge was a defo red.
