Just to appease those who think that you can't comment on players you didn't see play for the famous - despite hearing legendary tales

In no particular order

John Robertson

Craig Levein

John Colquhoun

Drew Busby

Rudi Skacel

We have a winner.

How can you have a winner when it's in your lifetime ?

Stack them up Tazio

Wee Robbo must be in with a shout with the over 35's

For what it's worth I'd take your choice and replace Busby with Cameron or Hartley.

Cameron or Busby for me. Picked Busby solely on the fact he payed in a gash era. Both players stood out though.

I'm over 35 and never saw any of those...over 40 truth be told!

Robbo The only one that would deserve legend status in my lifetime...possibly Rudi for his cup exploits.

I've been actively attending since 2002 so my pick would be...

Skacel

Fyssas

Hartley

Pressley

Gordon

A few players I've liked in that period, Jankauskas, Zaliukas, Webster etc but none I would consider legendary. Fyssas is more a cult hero as well.

What age were you when you saw Robbo play?

4 & 5. What does that matter to legendary status? :cornette:

Not sure how many times I'm going to have to explain this in two seperate threads.

Thought provoking question as it does make you question precisely what a legend is. I guess it must be a mix of longevity, success, importance to club, and impact.

He's not everyone's favourite person but Gary Mackay is close to that list for me. I do question whether Cameron should be there instead of Hartley also. And to be honest although not a better keeper than Gordon, Henry Smith is "a bit of a legend" in my eyes.

Then I think you need to consider managers to be honest. True manager legend status I would give to Doddie and JJ. As managers they really changed the shape and status of the club in their tenure.

From my lifetime perspective though I generally feel that the players that came through from the early 1980s into THAT team in 1985/86 and onwards are more worthy of legend status as they dragged the club back from real doledrums gave us THAT season and also most of them gave us THAT Uefa cup run.

I wonder if individuals are more inclined to offer the legend status to key players from their childhood/adolescence. It is this time in your life of course where these players are absolute heroes, almost super humans. As you grow up your perspective of the status of footballers probably changes. Plus nostalgia dictates you will often remember your 8 to 20 years more affectionately.

Good topic though.

Tough one to only pick 5. My pick is based on my perception of the player and not necessarily what they did or achieved at the club.

Anyway..

1. Rudi - Always pulled out a performance for the club when it mattered most.

2. Robbo - Goals speak for themselves.

3 Gowser - Even as an adult watching, I loved this lads enthusiasm.

4. Dave McPherson - Youth tinted glasses here but I though he was class.

5. Neil Pointon - Won't be on everyone's list but played my position. Similar to Gowser his enthusiasm made me love him.

As I said not necessary who merit to be in the top 5, but my slanted perception and reasons as to why. :-)

Jim Cruickshank

Donald Ford

Drew Busby

Rudi

Robbo

I was never much of a fan of Busby, so I'll replace him with Sir Paul, John Colquhoun, Pressley or Gary Mackay. Otherwise I have the same players as you.
